Rocky L. Ho Chapter 2 Title: “Ethics On Line” by Deborah G. Johnson Quote: “One way that scope or power has moral implications is that we generally expect those engaged in powerful activities to take greater care.”
Expectations: I expect to learn about the scope, anonymity, reproducibility in this chapter. Book Review: The author of this chapter is Deborah G. Johnson. Scope, anonymity and reproducibility are the special characteristics of communication in networks, with the help of these three, we can use communication such as telephone, fax, mass media and other communication devices. From what I have read, it is said that the law and the technology will not be enough to find a way to solve the problems just by the internet compared to offline. There are some rules stated first is to “know the rules of the forums in which you communicate and follow them”, second is to “respect the privacy and property rights of others, when in doubt, assume the user wants privacy and ownership”, lastly is to “respect the individuals with whom you communicate and those who are affected by your communication; that is , do not deceive, defame or harass”. These are the three general rules of communication.
Things I have learned: I learned that by using communication devices, will have to go thru many several procedures, and there are some rules to be done when it comes to communicating with others.
Integrity Questions: 1) What is scope? 2) What is anonymity? 3) What is reproducibility? 4) Who is the author of this chapter? 5) What is the lesson that should be learned in this chapter?
