E..g. こ [ko] こう[koo]/[ko:]/[kou]. * つ has 2 sizes. The smaller one is not pronounced but stands for a short pause (about one hiragana-length), and is regarded as one syllable. ** ん is pronounced [m],[n],[ng] and so on, and is regarded as one syllable.

Small や、ゆ、よ are always attached to preceding letters. And both letters(the preceding ones and small や,ゆ orよ) together are regarded as one syllable. The length of きゃ[kya] is same as that of か[ka] and the length of きゃあ[kyaa]/[kya:] is about twice as long.

* ぢゃ,ぢゅ and ぢょ are pronounced じゃ[ja], じゅ[ju] and じょ[jo], but they are rarely used.
