Maram Kanan The persuasive writing and speaking advances the progress towards social justice and equality because malala's purpose was to advocate for education. King’s purpose. King’s purpose was to persuade the clergymen and explain why they couldn’t wait and why they should act out. Alvarez’s purpose was to inform the audience of hardships faced by those in the dominican Republic and persuade her audience to speak up for justice. ….….. In Genetics of justice by Julia Alvarez, the purpose is to persuade the audience to speak up for justice. At the beginning of the text she talks about how Trujillo killed eighteen thousand Haitians. This is shown when she says "That same year 1937, el Generalisimo ordered the overnight slaughter of some eighteen thousand Haitians who had come across the border to work on sugarcane plantations for slave wages." (p.2). This event advances her purpose by how he murdered all those people and it proves he isn't a good person. Alvarez wrote something to her parents that shes proud of what they've done. This is shown in the text and it says " Thank you for having instilled in me through your sufferings a desire for freedom and justice." This advances her purpose by thinking hes parents to speak up for their justice. The author uses rhetric to be successful…. Dr. Martin Luther King’s purpose for writing the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” was to persuade the clergymen and explain why they couldn’t wait and why should act out .The author used Ethos, logos , and Pathos to find Martin Luther King's purpose. King begins his argument with various appeals to Ethos, “I have heard numerous religious leaders of the south call upon their worshippers to comply with a desegregation decision because it is the law, but i have longed white ministers say, “follow this decree because integration is morally right and the Negro is your brother.”(9). This is an appeal to Ethos because King’s not going to listen to the white ministers. This advances his purpose by show why they can’t get away with what the White people wanted. “It was during that period when the early christians rejoiced when they were deemed worthy to suffer for what they believed in” (10). This is an appeal to Pathos because they fought and they suffer for what they’ve believed in, this advances his purpose. The third reason he offers is, “We will win our freedom because the sacred heritage of our nation and the eternal with of god are embodied in our echoing demands” (11). This is an appeal to Logos because it makes sense and has its facts. Malala's purpose for speaking about the "Our books and our pens are the most powerful weapons" is to advocate for education. Malala begins her argument with various appeals to the people reaching out when she got shot. “Thank you to every person who has prayed for my fast recovery and new life." (Yousafzai 1). This is an appeal to Pathos because she gets very emotional about how the people who reached out after she got shot and she was very thankful. Malala begins her argument with various appeals is how strong leaders inspired her, "This legacy of change I have inherited from Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, and Mohammed ALi Jannal" This appeals to Ethos because she's referring to strong leaders and how they've inspired her. This is credible because they have similar believes. This appeals to her purpose
because she wants to get somewhere and she's not going to stop trying til the education for children happens. All three writers uses rhetoric to advance their purpose but Malala does the best job at advancing her purpose because she does a good job at used Logos because she explain
