TEACHER’S NOTES 2007/2008

Ready English for

This guide contains: • information about the structure of the

magazine; • a table of contents; • photocopiable activities.

Ready for English corresponds to the A1 breakthrough level of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (Strasbourg 1997). The aims of this level are to achieve communication, grammar and vocabulary skills.

• The pull-out poster on pages 8-9 captures the

attention of the young reader and provides a visual image of the Anglophone world (people, places, events etc.). • The comic strip Boule and Bill on page 10 is an

example of real communication: the dialogues are simple so they can be reproduced and adapted in class, whilst the drawings can be used to encourage the children to describe what they can see. At the back of this guide you’ll find an interactive version of the cartoon. • A new feature for this year is on page 11. The

Structure of the magazine: • Every issue of Ready for English starts with the

Reader’s Corner: a space where readers can communicate with the editorial team and discover short items of news from the Anglophone world. • On page 3 of each issue there is a chant which

is included on the audio CD. This helps students to improve pronunciation skills and develop intonation. This year we propose traditional songs often accompanied by mime actions. • The Illustrated vocabulary on pages 4-5 is

included on the audio CD and helps students to memorize vocabulary in a fast and lasting way. • Fun and games on pages 6-7 allows you to

revise the new vocabulary by using linguistic games (crosswords, anagrams, complete the sentence...).

nature page provides simple experiments and activities to carry out in class. • Pages 12-13 take a closer look at a particular

aspect of Anglophone culture (customs, traditions...), and invite the reader to compare their own customs with those of the English speaking world. • On Page 14 there’s a further page of games. • Craft corner is a new section: there are lots of

different craft activities to try out. • Stickers and pull-out features: in every issue

there are pull-out pages. These include stickers with basic language structures and phrases, craft activities and games. • Illustrated stories: in issues 2 and 5 of Ready

for English, you’ll find 2 interactive stories: “Friends are great” and “Sammy goes to the seaside”. Both stories are recorded on the audio CD. For more information and material visit: www.elimagazines.com
