This study was conducted to determine the effects of virtual laboratory on the class performance of selected third year nursing students. VII. VIII. Procedure and Research Design : The research design used for this study was called the survey design because it aims to capture a situation that occurs in a moment. It also provides sufficient knowledge about nature, objects and persons. It will also help this study to provide instrument for the measurement like surveying form and interviewing.

Here, we use a questionnaire for measuring instrument in collecting data in the school and to determine the effect of attention deficit on the academic performance of third year nursing students taking up RLE NCM 101. IX. Summary of Findings : 9.1 The majority of the students believed that virtual laboratory is very important on the competency level of selected third year nursing students. 9.2 Most of the respondents believed that the participants score higher on the est as obtained when presented with virtua laboratory. 9.3 The majority of the respondents revealed that they improved their performance in the hospital duty upon presenting virtual laboratory. X. Conclusions : Based on the findings the ff maybe concluded : 10.1 Upon the perception of the respondents of the effects of virtual laboratory brings a great part on the third year nursing students. Thus; it helps the studies in enhancing their cognitive skills performance through practicing

inside Virtual Laboratory.

10.2 The selected third year nursing students allow to practice real life station through the use of Virtual Laboratory that provides learning platform to the nursing students. 10.3 Using the Virtual Laboratory by nursing students does give benefit on the patient when performing the procedure in the interactive clinical laboratory and does give benefit in the selected third year nursing students. XI. Recommendations : 11.1 To the dean college of nursing, to its quest to a better quality of astudents

continue to improve siking a great ways in a better tool technology for learning application. 11.2 To the educator of Our Lady of Fatime University should continue in sharing their great knowledge and experiences in virtual laboratory as to enhanced and develop the skills and confidence of students of OLFU. 11.3 To the students of OLFU, who’s taking up Nsg. Research we recommend that they should upon on to this kind of research to be able to widen their

knowledge about the existence of newly introduced technology to

the

university. 11.4 And to the OLFU as a whole group should continue in providing an advantage of world class education right here in the Philippines

through its tradition of excellence and innovate spirit aims to bring the institute of nursing to the forefront of nsg. Education in the Philippines, preparing each nursing students all the way to the top to take on the demands of a global tomorrow.

CHAPTER I The Problem and Its Background

Introduction: Virtual Laboratory was intended to assess the merits of traditional versus virtual classroom environment on student test performance and students affect towards the experiences. In attempt to explain the experience this findings it is very important to know that the virtual students seemed more frustrated but not entirely from the technology rather it seemed from the inability to ask question from the professors in the face to face environment. The researchers believe this laid paradoxically to student compensation evidence by more involvement between and among peers who formulated study groups to pick up of not having a real classroom that this collaborative learning literature. The virtual laboratory creates and evaluate rich interactive learning environment that are usable in classroom practice and that push forwards the envelope of learning technlogies including three dimensional visualization model manipulation, multi sensory feedback and design based on learning this distal creatures will be presented so as to allow both interactive viewing and simulated physical and chemical manipulation and will encourage students to go beyond traditional learning methods such as dissection and text based factual learning also it is important that faculty contemplating the use of the visual format. Pay attention to the issue of real time collaboration whether carried from

within the traditional classroon or in the context of virtual space. It is the key to validate that it should be controlled in further research on the subject of virtual teaching.

Do the students able to seek understanding of learning characteristics and Effects on learning outcomes in virtual environment laboratory? 9. How effective does virtual laboratory did on the performane of the third year nursing students taking up RLE NCM 101. Hypothesis: Alternative Hypothesis:

 There is a significant difference on the competency level between those who have done with virtual laboratory and for those who are not yet done in selective third year nursing students. Null Hypothesis :  There is no significant difference on the competency level between those who have done with virtual laboratory and for those who are not yet done in selective third year nursing students.

Significance of the Study : The purpose of the study is to provide an accurate data on the effects of virtual laboratory on the competency level of selected nursing students. It was hypothesized crucial to test performance. Virtual laboratory in reality gives up in presence and immersion it gains back inaccessibility such technology is available in many universities and colleges. The findinds of virtual reality as a learning tool is gaining support and research into improving technology for learning application is widespread. However, research into making best of virtual technology to help the widespread speculum of the learners by investigating individual differences in clinical area. This study seeks to add to understanding of learners characteristics on competency level and learning outcome in virtual environment laboratory. The Selected Third Year Nursing Students. -They will be able to have enough knowledge about the existence of the newly introduced technology to the university. It helps them in enhancing their cognitive skills and performance through practicing inside laboratory and it lessen the risk of committing mistakes to their parents. This would take place on the ground floor of San Rafael Hall and in the campus. We are doing this research study because we would like to know the vrtual laboratory does enhance the cognirive skills of level III nursing studentsif using the virtual laboratory by nursing students does give the benefits of the patients. If performing procedure in the interactive clinical laboratory does give benefits to the level III nursing students. For Future Researcher. -They may have further reference to their further studies with the same issue. It would help them answer some problems. They might encounter during

thesis writing and they could also formulate other problems out of this research that needs to be answered. For the Faculty of OLFU. -They will help clinical instructors in evaluating their learning capabilities of the students effectively with the help of the computer driven mannequins the faculty and accurate monitor the procedures that are being performed by the students inside the laboratory. Scope and Limitation. – The researcher focuses from the study on the effects of Virtual Laboratory on the competency level of selected third year nursing students of Our Lady of Fatima Quezon City. This study will be conducted for one semester of school year 2007-2008 which is good for one semester.

Chapter II REVIEW RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES This chapter consist of related literature of the study which compose of foreign and local literature, as well as foreign and local studies. It also deals with the Theoretical/ Conceptual Framework. Research Paradigm and definitions of technical terms that will be mentioned in this chapter. Local Study According to the Fatima News Team (Thursday, August 16,2007) Virtual Laboratory is the most extensive clinical simulation Laboratory in the country today, features state of the art computer-model-driven-full sized human patient. Simulations (HPS) that allow Fatima’s nursing students to experiences true to life clinical scenarios that greatly augment their clinical treining. Will the nurse call system, students will learn to respond to patient calls within two minutes of delivery. Local Literature According to Manila Times (Sunday, March 25, 2008) FEU Institute of Nursing transforms Philippine nursing education via its modern Virtual Laboratory. Reflecting the rapid changes and developments in medical science and technology, Far Eastern University’s Institute of Nursing to takes nursing education to the next level, providing its students with the advantage of world class educations right here in the Philippines through its traditional of excellence.

Foreign literature Roy’s Adaptation Model. Sister Callista Roys’s adaptation model,originating in 1970, is widely used by nurse educators, researcher and practitioners. Roy focuses on individul as a biopsychosocial adaptive system. Both the individual and the environment are sources of stimuli that require modification to promote modification to promote adaptation. An ongoing purposive response. Adaptive responses contribute health, the process of being and becoming integrated; in effective and maladative responses do not. Roy’s adaptive system consist of two interrelated subsystem. The primary subsystem is a functional or internal control process that consists of regulator and cognator. The regulator process input automatically through neural-chemical-endocrine channels. The cognator processing warning, judgement and emotion. Ron views the regulator and cognator as methods of coping. The secondary subsystem is an effectors system that manifest cognator and regulatory activity. It consist of four adaptive modes;the physiologic mode involves the body’s basic physiologic needs and ways of adapting in regard to fluid and electrolytes,activity and rest circulation and oxygen. The self concept mode includes two components. The physical and personal self. The role function mode is determined by the need for social integrity and to the performance of duties based on the given positions within the society. The inter dependence mode involves one’s relations eith significant others and support systems that provide help affection and attention. According to Sister Callista Roy’s Adaptation theory it is the process and outcomes wereby thinking and feelings of a person uses conscious awareness and choice to create human and environment integration. In connection with the evaluation of cognitive skills of the nursing students in relation to using the virtual laboratory, the computerized mannequins serves as the stimulus to the students in terms of enhancing their skills. Roy emphasized the bio psychosocial adaptive system, in which the stimuli serve as the input and throughout as the control process and the output as an adaptive response. Inside the laboratory as a preparetion in the actual repitition of practices and by adjusting to the given environment without doing future harm. As stated by Callista Roy in her four models of adaptive system, self concept modes which include the physical-self and personal self in adapting to its environment, through these modes as student that has

been experienced to the use of the virtual laboratory and adapt to the different adaptive modes. Individuals respond to this kind of stimulus which facilitates a person to adapt to its environment. The output or the adaptive response of this virtual laboratory promotes heat because it can reduce the cases of negligence and malpractices that a nursing student can commit in the hospitals. As emphasized by Roy, each person’s adaptation level is unique and constantly changing. And as what she said she had stated students can progress and well developed their cognitive skills is through this stimulus. And the virtual laboratory is one that serves as a training ground that shapes the competitiveness, competence, consistency and cognitive skills of nursing students by adapting those kind of responses.and innovative spirit, FEU aims to bring the institute of nursing to the forefront of nursing education in the Philippines, preparing its students to take on the demands of a global tomorrow. Virtual Reality in the schools is a peer reviewed publication of the Virtual Laboratory and Education Laboratory (VREL), published by East Carolina University. Virtual Review in her schools adresses issues of incorporating virtual reality into the education system. “Virtual Reality” is the computer generated simulation of a real or an imagined environment. It can be graphics based (e.g., a walk through the building) or text based (e.g. a description of activity where participants can interact with one another. Virtual Reality in the schools is published by the Virtual Reality and Education Laboratory (VREL) in the College of Education at East Carolina University. The journal begins as a quarterly, issued in June, Sept., Dec. and march Volumes 1 & 2 were distributed in print format initially. World wide web provides the fastest dissemination of information which is necessary in the field of Virtual Reality due to the subjects rapidly changing technology . The Virtual Reality and Education Laboratory at East Carolina University is dedicated to finding ways to study the implications of Virtual Reality and Education Lab. at East Carolina in 1992. The current co-directors are Dr. Pantelids & Mr. David Vinciguerra. Theoretical Framework The theory of repetition is a meaningful and important materials and can enhance the retention of the ideas in the mind of the nursing students. Through actual repetition of different procedures in nursing skills, students can master and perform well if they are

alreadyon the field with their respective patients. By regularly performing the different nursing procedures and responsive dummies inside the virtual laboratories, they will have recognition on whatever skills that they will need in every specific case, situations and conditions of their patients. The tension and nervousness of newly expose student nurses will be lessened because of cognitive skills that they have learned from manlike and responsive mannequins. They are already prepared in facing cases every time that they would have their duties inside the hospital because of the retention of conitive skills in their mind. Repetition of differen procedures by the student nurses can enhance the relation of skills on their mind and makes them more competent enough in doing their duties. The actual repetition of a student nurse using the equipment inside the Virtual Laboratory can induce retention in the mind. Through this cycle of procedures in the laboratory it can help the studets in enhancing their knowledge and skills by using it frequently. Research Paradigm
