EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 1, Saborna St. 1000, Sofia FOR THE ATTENTION OF: HIS EXCELLENCY THE AMBASSADOR August 21, 2000 Ambassador Miles, On July 10th, 2000 I sent to the attention of Mr. Charles Grenchus, Consular Section 1, Kapitan Andreev St. (see attached letter) a package of documents to be forwarded to Ms. Janet Reno, Department of Justice and Mr. John Cornyn, Attorney General of Texas. That has been several weeks. The enclosures included an Affidavit that needed to be witnessed by the consular officials prior to being then sent on by diplomatic post. I requested my translator to call the Embassy since I’ve heard nothing concerning this matter. She advised me that apparently Mr. Grenchus left, no one was acting on the evidence and if I needed an affidavit to be notarized I’d have to pay about 150 USD. despite these being documents for the benefit of justice officials of the United States. “Say what?!” Mr. Ambassador, I’m imprisoned. My sister and other family members are U.S. citizens. I am a legal resident alien in the United States, the alleged victims are 145 United States citizens and the office of Governor Bush wrote me to pursue the matter through the appropriate agencies. Am I to not file a criminal complaint to U.S. Justice officials because a consular office representative wants 150 USD from a 5 year unsentenced or convicted U.U. resident and Canadian citizen in a Bulgarian prison? It would be a refreshing change to see somebody appear who starts talking sense. Local representative: Marianna Radoulova “Banishora” bl. 16 entr. A, floor 2 apt.5 phone/fax: 31 47 40
