a message from dr. price
If there is one thing I am sure of in this life, it’s that God is faithful. Many have judged God faithful – faithful enough to begin a faith adventure. They stepped out in faith, believing and confessing God’s Word. They crossed over the threshold. They got past the threshold and started their faith walk. But somewhere along the line, they did not have enough strength to complete what they started. I made up my mind when I found out how to walk by faith that I was going to take God at His Word no matter what happens. I had the kind of attitude that affirms, “This is coming to pass or I am going to die – one of the two!” And I have seen God’s faithfulness time and time again in my life—through financial hardships and health challenges. Each time, I’ve come out on the other side—successful. This is the kind of attitude you have to have. A dogged determination that says, “I am not going to be defeated! I will not give up!” Sometimes in the natural you want to give up, but that is when you have to know what God has promised in His Word. Now, once you make this stand you will be challenged. The devil will tempt you to question whether God will do what He said He will do. Satan will argue with you day and night to try to talk you out of the fact that you believe God is faithful. Sometimes the circumstances will be so orchestrated against you that you will think, “I wonder if God will.” But you have to be bold as a lion. In Matthew 11:12, Jesus said, "… the —Deuteronomy 7:9 kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.” What did He mean? You do not have to try to take anything from God because God is not withholding anything from you. It is the devil who is standing in the middle of the road, trying to block you and keep you from getting across to the kingdom—the promises of God. Satan will try to stop you in every way he can. You cannot walk up and say, “Mr. Devil, would you please allow me to pass across?” No, you have to be violent about it because violence is all he understands. You have to be bold in your faith walk. Every time the enemy comes against you, sit down and start considering the faithfulness of God. Go over your life to see what God did to bring you victory in whatever the situation may have been. You may remember some things you forgot about—some things that at the time seemed insignificant. But when you put it all together and begin to make a cumulative list of what God has done on your behalf, it will make you as bold as a lion. Always remember that God is faithful. Trust Him. Count on Him. He is reliable. He will not fail you – He is on your side!
“Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;”
invitation to salvation
If you are not a Christian and would like to become one, pray the following prayer:
Dear GOD in Heaven, Thank you for sending Your Son JESUS CHRIST to destroy the power of Satan over my life. I accept Jesus now as my personal SAVIOR and LORD, and I choose to turn away from the sins of my past to a renewed Life in Jesus. You said that if I would confess with my mouth the LORD JESUS and believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead, that I would be saved. I believe JESUS died for my sins and that You raised Him from the dead for my benefit. HEAVENLY FATHER, I thank you for the gift of salvation and for accepting me now as Your child. In JESUS’ name, Amen.
If you have prayed this prayer, please let us know by writing to us at: Crenshaw Christian Center P.O.Box 90000 Los Angeles, CA 90009 Attn: Administration Office

aid Dr. Frederick K.C. Price, Pastor and Founder of Crenshaw Christian Center, reciting the scripture he’s used for decades to introduce his “Ever Increasing Faith” broadcast and that has helped to brand him as an icon of faith. It’s Sunday morning at Crenshaw Christian Center (CCC). Dressed in a regal three-piece suit with a Bible in his hand, Dr. Price is ready to preach another message from the Gospel of the power of faith at the world-renowned FaithDome in Los Angeles, California. Whether it’s faith to receive healing, faith to prosper financially, or faith to overcome adversities to restore your life, for decades Dr. Price has taught that faith in God possesses divine power to transform your life and do the impossible—just as he and his ministry have. Consequently, CCC and the Fellowship of Inner-City Word of Faith Ministries (FICWFM) will honor the life, legacy and ministry of Dr. Price and affirm him as the Apostle of Faith at this year’s weeklong convention in July.
The convention will commence on Monday, July 21st with a gala fundraising dinner titled “A Divine Affair” at the elegant Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel located in Beverly Hills, California. Grammy and Dove Award-winner CeCe Winans will be the featured entertainment. Event proceeds will be used to create the Apostle of Faith Library located on CCC grounds to chronicle the history of Dr. Price and the contributions of “Ever Increasing Faith.” The Apostle Affirmation service for Dr. Price will be held on Friday, July 25th at CCC. Other celebrities slated to perform at the convention are Gospel sensations Mary Mary and Helen Baylor. And distinguished ministers Pastor Jack Hayford of Church on the Way in Van Nuys and Bishop Charles E. Blake, pastor of West Angeles Church of God In Christ in Los Angeles and Presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ, will also be speaking. Although an Apostle is an esteemed office in Christianity, it’s a title that’s mostly associated with the early church and the Apostle Paul. However, just as Catholicism has a Pope and Buddhism has a Dali Lama, 21st century Christianity has divinely inspired and appointed leaders to guide the church, EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Summer 2008

said Bishop Wiley Jackson of Gospel Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia.
“A lot of people believe that Apostles ended with the original 12 Disciples,” said Bishop Jackson who first made the announcement proclaiming Dr. Price is an Apostle of Faith (in 2007). If that is true, why would there be I Corinthians12:28?” “I Corinthians 12:28 says, ‘God has appointed these in the church, first Apostles…’ Amazing. It said, ‘First Apostles,’ but we don’t talk much about the office of the Apostle. How can a whole body come together and skip over Apostles?” Ephesians 2:20 describes an Apostle as a cornerstone of the faith. The unique calling requires that one be directed on a definite mission to act with full authority on behalf of the Savior and is accountable only to God. For example, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. could have been considered an Apostle because as a result of his mission / ministry to achieve justice and equality for all Americans, he is responsible for the success of the Civil Rights Movement said Bishop Jackson. “God has given us such an Apostle,” proclaimed Bishop Jackson. “One who has received his revelation through a vision (of how to walk by faith, not by sight.) Fifty years ago, who could Dr. Price look at and get a vision of Crenshaw Christian Center as far as prosperity is concerned? Where could he turn to model himself? God gifted a man with a message that would free all of us. I really don’t know of any other African-American Charismatic ministry (like CCC).” Bishop Jackson is a dedicated member of FICWFM, but other prominent ministers with celebrated ministries agree with their recommendation for the affirmation. “No one fits the title of Apostle of Faith better than Dr. Fred Price,“ said Dr. Marilyn Hickey, Founder and President of Marilyn Hickey Ministries. One of the world’s leading Bible teachers, Marilyn Hickey has traveled to more than 100 nations sharing God's Word. “He teaches about faith line upon line, precept upon precept. He is as good as anyone showing others how to utilize faith in their lives. He encourages me and millions of others to stand strong in their faith and make this message work.”

Dr. Jack W. Hayford
A prolific and best-selling author, Pastor Hayford has penned more than three dozen books, 600 hymns and choruses, including the internationally known and widely recorded "Majesty.” He is perhaps best known, however, as founding pastor of The Church on the Way (TCOTW), the First Foursquare Church of Van Nuys, California in 1969. Pastor Jack Hayford also believes that Dr. Price has met the biblical requirements to be affirmed an Apostle.
“The biblical clarity and abiding fidelity to Jesus’ lifestyle and character, joined to the abounding fruitfulness of a ministry that has impacted the nations of the earth and strengthened the saints in all parts of Christ’s body, are easily sufficient reason to affirm Pastor Fred Price as an Apostle – soundly on the ground of God’s Word,” said Pastor Hayford. “That his Apostleship has quickened God’s Word to vibrant faith among millions warrants the title as well, and for that reason, I join with others to speak with gratitude to God and with respect for this ministry which he has placed among us all,” he added.
“…In Pastor Price’s ministry I have seen these signs of a servant-shepherd – signs that may not be visible to those who only witness the platform public persona of this man, but traits familiar to those of us who have and do know him as a fellow laborer “in the trenches” of the City of Los Angeles.” Often times, when people are living in the presence of a history-maker, they can’t or aren’t able to fully grasp the depth of or the impact he or she will have on the future. With the creation of the Apostle of Faith Library, generations will be able to learn more about their spiritual heritage and God’s purpose for His people due to the writings of Dr. Price. The author of more than 50 books on faith, healing, prosperity, and the Holy Spirit, Dr. Price has sold over 2.1 million books since 1976.

“PROSPERITY: GOOD NEWS FOR GOD’S PEOPLE” By Dr. Frederick K.C. Price
Says Dr. Price, “In this book, I want to show you God’s plan for prosperity, and how He intends for all Believers to be financially secure. Critics want to dismiss this as ‘name it and claim it.’ It’s nothing of the sort. It is the very blueprint for how any Christian should conduct his or her life when it comes to money. Prosperity is the result of doing God’s Word.” In this new book release Dr. Price presents a comprehensive analysis of what the Bible says about wealth and money— what God says—and how we, as Believers, fit into the picture. Today, more than ever, the Body of Christ needs money to spread the gospel. Learn how you can be a channel that God can use to get His covenant established in this earth realm.

I
By Dr. Michael A. Freeman
am extremely humbled and honored to have been selected by Dr. Fred Price as the Executive Vice President of this great organization Fellowship of Inner-City Word of Faith Ministries (FICWFM). Never in my wildest dreams could I ever have imagined being chosen to serve in this capacity along side this great man of faith. My father, grandfather and great grandfather were also Pastors and one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is how to serve. I’ve enjoyed serving practically all of my life and I know that I can serve God’s people better than I can pastor God’s people. Those who understand know that they are one in the same. Unfortunately, most pastors just want to be served and not serve. I’ve always honored the men and women of God who I’ve been privileged to serve. Here’s my position—the student is never greater than the teacher. I always keep the teacher higher than myself (the student). So for me, it’s not about being FICWFM’S Executive Vice President. More than that, this is another opportunity where I can serve both the Godfather of Faith, (“WOW”, wait a minute I’ll say it backwards, “WOW) and the men and women of God who are in the Fellowship. How does one attempt to fill the shoes of such a dynamic, prolific, profound, anointed and loving, (the adjectives are endless!) man of God? The answer is you don’t. All you have to do is see that the same principles that he put in place are followed. First, by me and then by the men and women who have embraced his vision for FICWFM. It is vitally important that the members not compare me with Dr. Price because there is only one Doctor, but I need them to come along aside me to promote what Dr. Price has stood for all these years. I think that we can all take what we have gleaned from his life collectively and impart those same things into the lives of other pastors and ministers. We are all in a position to carry the dream of a man to the next generation of leaders. Those who walked with Dr. King did not fully capitalize on what he established. After his death, they scattered and thereby, for the most part, delayed things that are just now manifesting. Come on! Some forty years later, we have the first African-American Presidential Nominee. Let’s learn from our past and all carry the torch, the fire and the baton together!
10
EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Summer 2008
I’ve observed several things since being around Dr. Price and his ministry:
Faith, we all know that faith is and has been the bedrock of his assignment.
Family, he is the epitome of a husband and father and has always exalted the importance of the family.
Finances, coming into this understanding has definitely helped all of us do what God has placed in our hearts, he’s shown us that’s it’s OK to have silver, gold and God! Fellowship, unlike a lot of other leaders, he enjoys fellowshipping with all of us. Think of the many times he has taught the Word and then taken the time to fellowship with us. So I will simply package something that I am very familiar with, the four Fs – Faith, Family, Finance and Fellowship. My desire is to see every pastor with all these areas rock solid in their own lives and ministries. I am so fulfilled in ministry, I want every pastor to have the same level of fulfillment that DeeDee and I have and more.
Finally, I would like everyone to know; I did not ask for this honor. No one can know how shocked I was and still am to have been chosen, especially in light of all of those who are qualified for the position. With a worldwide television ministry, three campuses, plus 200 acres of land to build our future home; Faith City, and as well thousands of partners; my plate is full. My point is this, I ask that you simply honor Dr. Price’s choice and decision, like you have with all of his other choices and decisions, (which have always put us in a better position). He has not made this decision lightly; he knows what he is doing. Consider this, how could he have been so right about all of his other decisions and directives and now not know the voice of God in this one? Again I’m looking forward to serving you and serving with you for years to come. Shalom!!—EIF

ordered by Eritrea to its north, Sudan to its west and Kenya to its south, the nation of Ethiopia is full of Biblical history and cultural influence. Just as the Ethiopian eunich spoken of in the book of Acts thousands of years ago, many of the almost 76 million people that populate this great country are still searching for the truth. Hosanna Radio Broadcasting Network is answering this search with 24-hour a day ministry that includes anointed music and teachings, and meeting the human needs of the people. The Word of faith and power is being released through the air waves via shortwave transmitted messages, and Crenshaw Christian Center (CCC) Global Missions is a primary sponsor of this great endeav-

or by the purchase of air-time and radios. Un-reached and difficult to reach people, in Ethiopia and through out Africa and the Middle East now have access to the Gospel.
IN THE CITY In May of this year, CCC had its first physical introduction to the nation with an invitation from the Hosanna Radio Broadcasting Network. We were invited to the country to observe and assess the expansion of the Ministry. Through its Foundation, Missionary Tersit Asrat, founder of Hosanna Broadcasting is physically meeting the need of children and families in the capital city of Addis Ababa and in surrounding regions. Addis Ababa is also the largest city in Ethiopia, and millions of children who are homeless, abandoned, diseased and hungry wander the streets day in and day out. It is here where Hosanna House Orphanage has become a safe haven for girls ranging from age 7 to 14, who once were among the millions of victimized children. CCC partnered on this mission and through your support of our missions effort, we bought much-needed furniture for the home, and school supplies and clothing for the 12 girls in the home. The facility can hold up to 50 girls and the goal is to fill to capacity by year end, with plans already underway for a larger facility. The highlights for me included to witnessing the joy when love was demonstrated to them, hearing the songs they sang for their foreign guest, and their eagerness to learn about Jesus and “prayer-time.”
IN THE RURAL AREA A six hour drive out of the city is when you begin to move to the outer rural parts of the country where what seems to be bad in the

city, gets bleaker. This is where it gets more difficult to penetrate the religious traditions, cultural and social barriers. Consequently, the creativity Hosanna has for establishing Soccer Leagues is Missions contextualization at its zenith. Presently they have adopted two villages that are about a two hour drive in distance by organizing soccer teams with boys ages 12 to 24. Between the two villages there are 85 boys and young men with four different teams. In this culture, when you have won the children, you have won the village. When we arrived in each of the villages, people young and old came to see what none of them had witnessed before—brand new clothes for the boys, new soccer balls as well as new uniforms and shoes. In this particular village, most of the people and the boys were brought up in the Islamic religion. While we did not have the liberty to speak openly about our faith, the demonstration of love and the Holy Spirit giving me words filled with Biblical principle, I was able to speak into the lives of the youth with words of encouragement. The highlight of this aspect of the soccer team ministry was that while in Ethiopia the Lord brought to Hosanna a Born-again, Spirit-filled Evangelist, who has a calling to those of the Islamic faith. His strategy has been to organize Soccer Teams throughout the

country. He heard what Hosanna was doing and is now the new head coach for the team. We had the opportunity to watch him in action with the boys. Our God is an amazing God. —EIF

ow the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.” Acts 4:32
It was this scripture that served as the springboard for the formation of the Fellowship of Inner-City Word of Faith Ministries (FICWFM) Federal Credit Union. It was several years ago that Dr. Fred Price taught a series of lessons titled, “None Suffer Lack,” which focused on the principle of the faith community pooling their resources for a common goal. It was Dr. Price’s idea to create a credit union since it was one that not only modeled the biblical principle of ownership held in common, but it also provided services from which all members could benefit. Dr. Price was presented with research that pointed out that people of color lack adequate financial services from many of the existing banks. In December of 2003 the Wall Street Journal reported, “Lendng Patterns Remain Unequal” “African-Americans, Elderly Get Worse Mortgage Terms Than Others, Study Finds.” In addition, with the introduction of subprime loans, the losses to people of color has been estimated to be between $164 billion and $213 billion according to a report published this year by United for a Fair Economy. To that end, John Grayson was asked to head up the project which is expected to open next summer on the grounds of Crenshaw Christian Center (CCC) on the main floor of the Music Center Building. “The purpose of the credit union is to prepare us to emulate what the early church had done [in creating one common goal],” explains Grayson, President of the credit union. “The plan has been revised to include FICWFM and its church members. Initially it was just CCC. The next important step is fundraising for its capitalization.” During the FICWFM convention in July, the fundraising efforts will be launched. What makes this project so unique is the fact that this credit union, unlike most, will open its doors offering a full range of services including
The current Music Building, which will be the future home of the FICWFM Federal Credit Union.
checking and savings accounts, loans, credit cards, online and phone banking, money market accounts, retirement accounts, nationwide ATM, branch banking and online banking. Virtually all new credit unions start with limited services and over time start adding services. “Offering full services has never been done before on the day of opening,” notes Grayson. “The main reason people will join is because the services we are offering will be superior.” Plans for renovating the portion of the Music Building that will house the Main Branch have been completed. This branch will feature a design where there are no teller booths. Members will come in and sit down for what Grayson describes as a boutique banking experience. “We will not be selling to our members, we will be serving them,” notes Grayson. “With no teller lines, through our boutique banking experience, the Member Service Representative (MSR) will be able to cash checks, take loan applications and provide all other services. The key word is “experience.” Our members will receive the best experience and it will carry over into every channel of contact. The object here is for everyone to have an experience that is superior to their current situation. Our wealthiest and our most modest member will get the same service because they have put their resources in common. Everyone is going to be treated like Dr. Price. It is quite a project.”—EIF

Q&A with Drs. Fred and Betty Price
Will cremation hinder God from resurrecting the body of a Believer? Q - Will cremation hinder God from resurrecting the body of a Believer? A - In Genesis 18:14 the question is asked, Is anything too hard for the Lord? Well, of
course, the answer is an unqualified “No!” We are also told in 1 Thessalonians 4:16 that God will raise the dead in Christ at the first trumpet call, regardless of whether their bodies have turned to dust underground or have been reduced to ashes by fire. Therefore, when the fullness of time is come, we can rest assured that God who knows all, and can do all, will have no problem putting those ashes back together no matter where they may be or may have been scattered. What you have to understand is that man (and woman, too, of course) is a spirit, has a soul, and lives in a physical flesh and blood body. The physical body is simply the earthly house you (a spirit) live in here on earth. Its only value is to provide an outer covering, which allows you (a spirit) access to things of this earth realm. Your soul allows you the abil-

ity to exercise your free will, express emotions, and use your intellect or mind. Your spirit – the real you, allows you access to the things of the spirit world where God operates. Your spirit and soul (which go hand in hand like wet goes with water) will never cease to exist – whether in heaven, if you are bornagain, or in hell if you are not. This is not the case with the body. Whether it is put into the ground or into a wall, it will decay and turn to ashes or dust. Cremation is an accelerated form of this process – ashes or dust is still the result. Since God is eternal and will never cease to exist, just like your spirit and soul. You can surely see why the spirit and soul are far more important to Him than a body that will ultimately end in dust. So will it be until we receive our glorified bodies, such as Jesus has right now (Luke 24:39).

ut Dr. Betty Price, the First Lady of Crenshaw Christian Center, would call it “hindsight 20/20.” What is “it?” “It” was Dr. Betty’s previous consumption of about 10 cups of coffee a day for decades. The beverage eventually contributed to a two-year battle with cancer in 1990. “I was always watching my weight,” said Dr. Betty. “So I would eat a light breakfast and have three cups of coffee. For lunch, I would eat a little sandwich and have about three cups of coffee. For dinner, I would eat a lot of fried ”I would eat a lot foods or rice and gravy. And then I would have more coffee. Consequently, you need water to regulate your body’s —Dr. Betty Price temperature, provide oxygen to your cells, remove waste, and protect your joints and organs. In Dr. Betty’s case, after a prolong period of insufficient water intake and nutritional abuse, her body gave way to lymphoma—a malignant tumor. The Bible say that all things work together for good for those who love God and nothing could be truer than Dr. Betty’s case. Her bout with cancer turned out to be a second chance to live a blessed life with greater health, wrote Dr. William F. Taylor, in Dr. Betty’s cancer-survivor memoir “Through The Fire & Through The Water: My Triumph Over Cancer.” “I now believe, along with Dr. Betty, that had she been miraculously or instantly healed, she would not be practicing today the good health habits she has since developed (including proper nutrition, good bowel care, use of food supplements and exclusion of excess coffee.),” wrote Dr. Taylor Today, Dr. Betty is a picture of fitness. Standing 5’5, she’s 10 pounds lighter than she was before she was diagnosed with cancer and has gone down about three dress sizes as a result of proper nutrition. And at the age of 73, she says she has more stamina and gusto for life. “I feel better now than I’ve ever felt,” said an exuberant Dr. Betty who radiates with vibrant health. “I have energy to go all day. Is Coffee bad for your health? By Pastor Robert Bolden
Coffee represents 71% of all the United States consumption followed by soft drinks and tea. It is the most widely used stimulant in the world. It can be habit-forming but has not been proven truly addictive. It contains caffeine, which is a mild stimulant, and in many people coffee drinking enhances alertness, concentration and mental and physical performance. A typical 7 fluid ounce cup of coffee contains 80-140 milligrams of caffeine, depending on the method of preparation. Even when prepared using the same equipment large variations can take place. Many studies have been performed on the relationship between coffee consumption and many medical conditions, ranging from diabetes and cardiovascular disease to cancer and cirrhosis. Studies are contradictory as to whether coffee has any specific health benefits, and results are similarly conflicting with respect to negative effects of coffee consumption. In addition, it is often unclear whether these risks or benefits are linked to caffeine or whether they are to be attributed to other chemical substances found in coffee (and whether decaffeinated coffee carries the same benefits or risks.) Because caffeine influences the central nervous system in a number of ways and because a small number of people may be particularly sensitive to these effects, some people have attributed all sorts of health problems to coffee. Unfiltered coffee seems to boost cholesterol the most, although a handful of recent studies hint that filtered coffee may have an effect on cholesterol, too. In one study, researcher in Sweden found that people who normally drank filtered coffee experience a small drop in cholesterol levels when they stopped drinking coffee for a few weeks. Unfiltered coffee has much less effect on your heartdisease risk than high blood pressure or being overweight. If you want to optimize your cholesterol levels, you should avoid large daily amounts of unfiltered coffee. Experts say that the majority of coffee-drinking Americans do not need to worry about the impact of a cup coffee on cholesterol levels. That’s because most Americans drink filtered coffee, which is believed to have much less of an effect on cholesterol than unfiltered coffee. Filters seem to remove most of the cholesterolboosting substances found in coffee.

Each meal consists of either fresh fruit or vegetables, and yes, she still drinks coffee. But only one cup because she believes that a little coffee can be medicinal. And she’s proud to say that her soul food diet has been replaced with baked fish and chicken almost entirely. “I eat it sometimes, but not large portions,” she said. “Sometimes it’s not what you eat, but how much you eat. That’s a matter of the will,” she said. Now Dr. Betty lives as an empowered self-advocate who’s been cancer-free for 18 years. But she is quick to inform people that medicine and information alone didn’t heal her. She said she P.U.S.H.ED into her new destiny. She Prayed Until Something Happened. “The doctor cannot heal you,” she said. “All they can do is place your body in an environment in which the healing power can take place. My oncologist said I healed myself, but I didn’t. God did. Your faith takes you beyond what you feel or see. “You look at what you believe, and I believed that I was healed through God’s transforming Word. It was a battle, but I never put my faith in what I saw. I just kept confessing God’s Word. God is able to move you from poverty to wealth and from sickness to health,” she added. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT COFFEE Q: Is coffee bad for your health? A: No. Coffee can be part of a healthy balanced diet. There is no conclusive evidence to suggest that a moderate amount of coffee is bad for you.
Q: Some scientific research suggest that coffee increase risk for some diseases A: No, research shows that coffee drinking is perfectly safe. It is inevitable, given the number of studies conducted on coffee and health, that from time to time they suggest a link between coffee and certain conditions, however, it is important to know that over indulge in anything can be unwise.
Q: How do we know that coffee is safe? A: Coffee is one of the most heavily researched commodities in the world today with literally thousands of published studies covering a wide range of topics. The overall conclusion is that coffee drinking is perfectly safe. Q: Does coffee drinking raise blood pressure? A: Yes, though at levels that are no greater than would be experienced during everyday activities – such as taking part in a conversation.
Q: Do either coffee or caffeine cause cancer? A: There is no conclusive evidence to suggest that this is the case. In 1997 the World Cancer Research Fund
published a comprehensive review of diet and cancer and in regard to coffee it stated: Most evidence suggest that regular consumption of coffee and/or tea has no significant relationship with risk of cancer at any site.
Q: Is Coffee addictive? A: No. Enjoying coffee during the day may be described as a regular habit, but in no way should this be confused with being addictive. Coffee drinkers do not need to increase the amount they consume over time, nor do they generally experience problems if they drink less than they are used to for whatever reason and also coffee drinking does not cause psychosocial effects.

Is God Glorified Through Sickness?

EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Summer 2008
ost of you who read this magazine go to church. Perhaps your church is large. Perhaps it has beautiful stained glass windows. I’m sure you think a lot of your church building. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you don’t worship the place. Then you enter into idolatry. But you should consider and respect the church building as being God’s house. Some of you who smoke or drink and do other things, don’t smoke or drink inside the main sanctuary of your church. You consider that a holy place and you put your cigarettes out before you enter in. You wouldn’t want to be caught smoking inside the church building because “that’s God’s house.” If you should walk into your church one Sunday morning and see a gaping hole in the ceiling with the rain falling through you would have a fit. You’d say, “Why this is terrible. This is a disgrace before God. This is God’s house; we ought to do better than this. All of the toilets are running over, the pipes are all broken, water is running all over the floor, this is a disgrace.” The beautiful stained glass window has a big hole in it. You’d say, “Why this is terrible. We have to get that fixed.” Why? Because this is God’s house. All right now just keep that in mind. I want to show you something. In I Corinthians 6:19-20 God says: Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. Glorify God, glorify God where? In the church building. In the closet,
at the altar, at a retreat, or some camp, or some conference? No! It says—glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God’s. Your body is the temple; your body is where God dwells. The Bible says that God does not live in houses made by men’s hands. Yet you have respect unto your church house. You’d have a fit it you drove up to it and saw one of those “Do you not stained glass windows broken. You’d want it know that fixed immediately, your body is because it would be a disgrace the temple before God, of the Holy because you consider that place Spirit who is God’s house. you, whom And, it is not even God’s house. you have God’s house is your body, but from God, you don’t mind if and you are the windows are knocked out of not your this house. You don’t mind if the own? ” plumbing doesn’t work in this house, you don’t mind if the organs don’t work in this house, because it’s just an old, broken-down body. It doesn’t have any significance at all. However, God forbid that we should let this brick and mortar building go to deterioration. Because that’s the house of God. Is it? We just read it—your body is the temple of God. If you wouldn’t allow that mess and corruption in the physical building that you call a church, why do you think that God wants it inside of your body? Your body where He lives. Who thinks that God wants to live in a house that He can’t see out of the windows, He can’t hear out of the ears, He can’t walk with the legs, and He can’t

move the hands? Your body is the temple. Praise God! God dwells in our bodies! He said, “I’ll walk in them, I’ll live in them. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God.” We have a fit over the brick and mortar house and lie down like whipped dogs when Satan puts some affliction or infirmity on us. We have the audacity to say, “It’s for the glory of God.” If this is the case, why don’t you break all the windows out of the church building for the glory of God? You wouldn’t want the people around the neighborhood to see it in this sad condition. You’d be ashamed of it. But you’re not ashamed for them to see the place that God has created to dwell in broken, in a wheel chair, or on a bed of affliction. Are you seeing my point? Let’s look at Luke 7:11-16: “Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd. And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep." Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother. Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has risen up among us"; and, "God has visited His people." This man was too young to die. Do you know that in all of the accounts that we have in the Bible of Jesus raising the dead He

always raised young people? Did you ever think about that? Your minimum days should be 70 years, that’s just the bare minimum. You ought to live to be at least 120 years of age. That’s the Bible. God out of His own mouth—in the Old Testament— said the number of your days shall be 120 years. I didn’t write it! God said it. The minimum ought to be 70 years, and you shouldn’t go out with sickness or disease then. Jesus raised this young man up. Perhaps he’d been sick and he died. Whatever the cause when the people saw what Jesus did, they reacted how? They glorified God! Glorified God! When? After the man was raised up. Are you following? After the man was raised. Is God glorified through sickness? It looks like— This article was He’s not! EIF excerpted from Dr. Price’s book, “Is God Gloried Through Sickness?” which is also available on CD. parenting matters
Teen Pregnancy: A Cry for Help
By La Verne Tolbert, Ph.D.
A teen pregnancy pact in a highly religious community of Boston has parents and school officials reeling with questions. Why did 17 girls, many 16 years old or younger, all agree to get pregnant? The answer? They wanted to raise their babies together …they wanted someone to love…
uch distorted thinking isn’t unusual for teenagers. Maturing bodies mask naïve minds filled with romantic notions. What is unusual is that such a phenomenon occurred in a white, middle-class, Catholic community.
S
The question we should ask is this: What’s missing in these girls’ homes and religious environment? Is it contraceptives? The school doctor and nurse resigned earlier in the year because condoms and contraceptives are not distributed without parental consent. In addressing this controversy, the principal acknowledged that even if contraceptives were available, that would not have prevented these pregnancies. What he might also add to this discussion is research which demonstrates that when condoms are available in schools, sexual activity and peer pressure to be sexually active increases. Boys feel that the adults in their environment (school officials, principals, teachers and parents) expect them to be sexually active, and that sexual intercourse is accepted. Condoms in schools send a message of sexual permissiveness. Couple condoms with school-based clinics— also called school-based health centers, which are family planning clinics in disguise—and sexual activity rates along with pregnancies skyrocket.
Focusing On Developmental Assets
In an effort to address the reasons behind risk-taking behavior (drugs, sex, gangs, dropping out of school, etc.), researchers at the Search Institute studied adolescents in grades
20

6-12 and identified 40 Developmental Assets or building blocks that help children develop into healthy adults. These assets are divided into two main categories: External Assets—Support, Empowerment, Boundaries and Expectations, Constructive Use of Time Internal Assets—Commitment to Learning, Positive Values, Social Competencies, Positive Identity Few would argue that kids need structure in their world. But the effort that it takes to provide this structure on a day-to-day basis demands parents’ commitment 7 days a week. Helping adolescents develop good decisionmaking skills means that kids are supervised, directed, corrected, and disciplined. Unfortunately, too many parents opt out of this responsibility and leave the child to raise herself as best she can. They fail to provide safe boundaries which protect their children, boundaries like curfews and rules— “No! You’re not going there because I don’t know the parents!” Excuses such as, “I trusted her,” or “She knows what’s right and wrong,” are shocking when voiced by a parent. Like an ostrich that digs its head in the sand when danger approaches, irresponsible parenting ignores the signs of older boys dating their under-age daughter.
When moms and dads prefer to be “friends” with their kids, the relationship is diffused into a fuzzy nothingness. Kids feel (and are!) emotionally abandoned. They resort to destructive behavior in an effort to get their parents’ attention. And where mom or dad is plagued with drug abuse or alcoholism, or where parenting is a one-sided chore, it’s easy to release the

reins of parental control altogether.
Building Internal Assets
Personal power, self-esteem, sense of purpose, and positive view of the future are the internal assets that result from a safe, structured external world. Boundaries make kids feel safe, protected, and loved. This builds personal power and self-esteem. Kids feel special, no matter how much they complain that, “My parents won’t let me go anywhere.” When time is monitored, constructive activity—sports, school clubs, church groups, and arts such music and dance—fill the space in the child’s day. Parents who accompany their girls everywhere ward off sexual predators lurking in the school bleachers…or even in the church pews. Obviously, television and the Internet are poor substitutes for parenting. Yet inner-city children spend more than 8 hours a day in front of the boob tube! When will parents have the courage to turn off the TV and make their children…read? External assets fortify internal assets because boundaries and guidelines teach kids that they, too, have control over what happens to them. Yes! Good decisions cause good results, which instills inner strength to continue making good decisions. Life feels purposeful, and confidence increases. Outlook for the future is optimistic. Let’s peek into the mirror. When we look at the lives of our
