But in today’s time, there are specialists who work inside the laboratory. There work is to determine and examine an individual's body fluids. This pertains to blood, urine, feces, and all other types of body fluids that exist within us. Sounds like a dirty job? yes. for sure everyone here is now aware of the different kinds of doctors with their own specializations, and as a medical student you might ask where would I specialize in? My answer for you would be MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY or MED TECH for short! My name is _______ and today I am here to exemplify to you, why "medical technology is the key in maintaining a healthy and safe society!" So first, what is a medical technologist? you might ask. A medical technologist is someone who provides information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses. But is it worth it? YES! Because we are what you would call the special forces of the medical field. We are the ones who work behind the scenes, though we may not frequently see the patients we treat and diagnose, it is our role in the medical field to be the backbone, to provide precise information to help in the diagnosis of the physician and treat the patient. We save lives discretely, but proudly. I am standing in front of you to discuss the advantages if you choose our course. First on the list is we are skilled in performing different clinical procedures. In the span of 4 years, students will be introduced to various practicals to improve our skills. Medtech students learn the correct techniques and proper handling of specimen to ensure its integrity. Did you know that the laboratory results released by registered medical technologists consists 70% of the overall diagnosis of the physician? One small mistake done during the laboratory procedure will be very dangerous to the patients’ lives. That is why we, medical technology students, practice to avoid these fatal mistakes. Second, there are many job opportunities after graduating with a degree in BS Medical Technology. Not all Medtechs are limited to work inside a laboratory, some can be researchers for medical institutions, they could also enter the academe. Also, the demand for skilled medical technologists are high especially in western countries such as America, United Kingdom and some parts of Europe.

Lastly, BS Medical Technology counts as a pre-med course. Taking up this course will equip you with the information needed and it will serve as a good foundation when you decide to pursue medicine in the future.
