A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER-PRESIDENT IIIHS FOR 2009 In the midst of severe challenges we face on earth today, many would say that there shines a new light, for those who have the eyes to see and the ears to hear.
IIIHS Founder
Fr. John Rossner, PhD, DSc, DLitt Fr. John is Founder/President of the IIIHS (a UN DPI/NGO), Emeritus Professor of Religion (History of Religion & Culture), Concordia University, Montreal, QC, Anglican priest, author, Abbot-general of the Ecumenical Order of the Transfiguration, the Conceptualizer of IIIHS Conferences, and coordinator of programs and panel discussions.
Today, future sciences of consciousness & healing converge with the sublime insights of mystics, saints, and sages of many ancient religious and cultural traditions of the world, East & West. In this conference we shall hear again from pioneers in the natural sciences, social sciences, arts, medicine, psychiatry, and comparative religion dealing with this issue. They will focus on impressions of a timeless awareness of a sublime, inner, guiding light, experienced by many, in various traditions throughout history. “The Light shines in the darkness; but the darkness can neither comprehend it, nor put it out. This is the true Light which gives light to every person coming into the world.” N.T., John 1 “Giver of Immortal Gladness, Lead Us to the Light of Day.” Ludwig van Beethoven Chorus, Ninth Symphony, Opus 125 “Lead Kindly, Light. Lead Thou Me On.” John Henry Cardinal Newman Science and spirituality, faith and reason, plus intuition, urgently need each other to create a truly human and graceful existence. The ideas that religion can do without science, or that science can do without spirituality & ethics, or that reason can survive without intuition, have presented us with a potentially disastrous illusion at this point in human history. Millions throughout history have said that they have experienced a sublime, eternal, and powerful inner
light shining in the darkness for those who will welcome it with faith and confidence. That inner light is experienced as a source of joy, healing, and creativity, which allows one to thrive in the midst of any darkness. The message from such personal experiences throughout history is fairly universal: that we can rise again from the potential cosmic disasters we have created. Come and explore with us what some leading thinkers from diverse religious, scientific, and cultural traditions have experienced as a way ahead toward restoration and healing.
