Doral Academy 11100 NW 27St. Doral Fl 33172 September 10th, 2008 Governor Bellingham Luxurious mansion lane Boston, Massachusetts Dear Governor Bellingham: I am a local blacksmith who happened to over hear the accusations of Hester Prynne. The decisions made were not sufficient. So, I will be discussing how I believe you should alter Hester’s punishment for adultery. Other topic I will be covering would be on whether or not I believe she is guilty, and if Hester should have custody of her daughter. Hopefully you will see through my eyes when you read the following. To begin with, Hester Prynne has not only soiled herself, but she disgraced our entire town. She committed a foul crime, adultery, and should be set an example of. Hester was already married to a man, therefore not only did she perform this intolerable act she has brought shame to her husband. So in addition to this ridiculous scandal Hester Prynne performed she did not mention who her lover was. Next, in my perspective Hester did not receive the appropriate type of punishment. Hester should have not been humiliated but instead taught that what she has done was wrong. Although I completely agree with Hester’s acts being wrong the punishment she deserved was not right. I believe that the humiliation she faced could have emotionally scared her. The A on her chest was also a bit childish and immature. She should have just done her time in prison and had a lesson on why adultery is wrong. Lastly, Hester Prynne should keep her daughter. Although the child may never know who the real father is she does have a mother, therefore, she should be allowed to have custody over her. On the other hand, I believe the daughter should have the right to know who her father is. So, Hester should only be allowed to keep her daughter only if the father reveals himself. In short, thank you for listening to my opinion on Hester’s accusations. Hopefully I engraved some of my thoughts into your mind. Take this into consideration. Sincerely

Stephen Menendez
