Developing Relationships

By Pastor Bong Baylon Discussion Guide No. 2

Honesty

Introduction

W

elcome to the second session of DEVELOPING RELATIONSHIPS. Making a commitment is the beginning of any worthwhile relationship. Although it’s not easy because of the risks, you still need to make that choice if you want to experience what it means to live in community with others. Our church believes that it takes a community to grow a Christian. No one grows by himself or herself alone. In this session, we will talk about the next important ingredient in community life: honesty. Honesty is being transparent, true, and sincere in all our dealings with others. Unfortunately, not many people are honest these days. Deception and lying are way too common. However, we cannot develop our relationships with others unless we’re honest.

Icebreaker Question: How would you know if a person is honest or not?

Scripture reading: Acts 4:32-5:11 Discussion Questions: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

How would you describe the relationship of the early Christians to one another? What were the visible results of their commitment to one another? Can this be applied to our lives today? Why or why not? What motivated Ananias and Sapphira to sell their piece of property? How would you compare their action with Joseph’s giving? According to Peter, what was their greatest sin? Do you agree or disagree? Why is deception such a grievous sin in the body of Christ? What would happen if people were truly honest with each other?

Application: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Share your common struggles in being honest with other people. Discuss these issues and encourage one another. Make a commitment to one another and before the Lord that you will strive to be honest with each other at all times starting today. Let the leader share his or her life story to the group while everyone listens and asks questions. Let each one share their prayer needs and pray for one another.

Assignment: Choose the next person who will share his or her life testimony in your next meeting. Pray for that person as a group.
