Digestive System Of Man Consists of Two Parts • Alimentary Canal:- It is nearly a nine meter long tube of varying diameter. • Digestive Glands:- They are the organs which secrete the digestive juices for digestion of food.

Details of Parts of Alimentary Canal • Mouth:- Mouth is a transverse Slitlike aperture, bounded by two lips. It is for ingestion. • Buccal cavity:- It is the space bounded dorsally by palate,ventrally by throat and laterally by jaws having teeth. Tongue is present on the floor of bucal cavity.
• Pharynx:-It is a small sized conical part where food and air passages cross each other. Glottis leads to wind pipe an can be closed by epiglottis. • Oesophagus:-It is a long tube which runs downwards and open into stomach.
• Stomach:- It is a J-shaped bag type muscular organ. The oesophagus open into its anterior part of stomach. The back flow of food is prevented by sphincter muscles of aperture. Middle part of stomach is dome shaped.
• Small Intestine:- It is about six to seven meter long. Duodenum is a part of small intestine. • Large Intestine:- It is about one to five metre long, shorter but wider than small intestine. • Anus:- It is a last part of Alimantary Canal.
Function of Digestive Glands • Salivary Glands:- These are three Pairs of Glands which secrete saliva in Buccal cavity by salivary ducts. • Liver:- It is the largest Gland. It secretes bile juice. • Pancreas:- It is a second largest Gland in human body.It is present in loop of duodenum.
• Gastric Glands:- These are numerous glands present in the wall of stomach.These secrete mucus, HCL , proenzymes and gastric lipase. • Intestinal Glands:- These are numerous glands present in wall of intestine. These Secrete intestinal juices.
