What is internet? • In 1960 ARPANET (by Advanced Research Projects Agency, USA) shared each others computer and then were able to send e-mail. • Modern internet works on TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and IP (Internet Protocol). JIM

TCP/IP ????? • TCP- Defines how a message should be divided into streams of packets that gets transmitted and then how should they be reassembled at the destination • IP- Addresses each packet and routes the packets across different nodes and networks before they arrive to ultimate destination JIM

Introducing WWW • Initially text based browsing used to take place on unix machines. • In 1992 Swiss software engineer Tim Berness Lee introduced a graphical, hypertext navigation tool called world wide web. • It revolutionised the internet as it provided a way to make internet accessible to a common user.
