Describe a Preaching Context The preaching context I have decided to use is that of a standard church congregation, one with a mixture of ages and people that you would probably find in a medium to large town. The reason I have chosen a standard church setting is because the message I want to put across in the preaching series is one that can and should apply to all Christians that are truly living by the Holy Spirit. The topic is one that focuses on authority and the authority we have in Christ Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit something that I feel strongly about. All Christians should grasp and acknowledge the strength and power that God has given to us to use for spreading the Message to the entire world. Also if people in the Church would take this onboard and realise what God has given to them, then I feel the Church would be a bit more on fire and passionate for telling others about Jesus without fear of rejection or embarrassment.

Part 1

Authority •

Introduce the series on Authority. Speak a bit about how it is going to be a series of sermons preached over a period of a few weeks. Mention about how it is a passion of mine to get people to grasp the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

Small testimonial: Talk about how the Holy Spirit's power gives us authority in the name of Jesus and that all things must bow to it. Use my own testimonial story about when a demon came and froze me with fear until I commanded it away in Jesus' name.

Link with scripture: Make mention of how that story may shock some people, but that even when Jesus started His ministry, He shocked people with what He did. Use Mark 1:27.

Expound: Say that this happened not long after Jesus Himself received the Holy Spirit also and that the people had never seen anything like that done before. That Jesus used verbal authority to cast out demons. Highlight the words 'even the spirits obey' - "even" meaning to the people it was unheard of.

Link/Bridge: Link to the points with a statement of Jesus knowing His authority. Use Acts 1:8 to say that we are all promised that same power from the Spirit.

Point 1: Talk about Spirit Baptism. Use Acts 10:38 ~ Jesus anointed and link with Matt 3:11 ~ Jesus baptising with the Spirit and fire. Expound on Matt 3:11, explain Spirit baptism.

Point 2: Acts 2:17-21 (also Joel 2:28-32): 'I will pour out my Spirit on all kinds of people.' NCV - Say that everyone can and will receive the Spirit if they ask for Him to come.

Point 3: When we receive the Holy Spirit, we have a supernatural boldness that only comes from authority in the Holy Spirit. Acts 4:31 the believers pray and receive the Holy Spirit to speak God's word without fear. Conclude with a summary of what has been said and finish on a thought or prayer that the people listening may all receive the Holy Spirit if they have not already, and then say that it will continue next time.

Part 2 - Authority •

Introduction: Introduce the series again briefly, this time recapping on the previous preach points maybe by using the conclusion from last time.

Testimony: Repeat the testimonial story that was used in the first part of the series for the benefit of those that may have missed it.

Scripture Link: Recap on some of the scripture references from the previous message, like Acts 2:17-21 and Acts 4:31. Mention Mark 1:27 as the main foundation for this series.

Expound: Expound the scripture again, as before, but this time also include the verses from Acts explaining that they both talk about times when the Holy Spirit has and will come in the right time when you need Him to help out in a situation to do the miraculous and show God's power and authority in everything.

Link/Bridge: Say that this will just be carrying on straight on from the third point last time and then continue with the first point.

Point 4: Read Acts 1:8; say that this is a promise for all of us, not just the disciples then. We will receive power to speak to all people.

Point 5: Talk about Peter: he was arrested and brought before the leaders in Acts 4: 7-10. Say how he was filled by the Spirit then to say just what was needed - The Hoy Spirit never fails.

Point 6: Talk on Peter's shadow (Acts 5:15). Say that when people know and recognise God's authority in you, they will come to you to meet with God - People will be able to see the reality of Jesus in you.

Conclusion: Conclude with a summary again of what has been said, and then say that the series will continue next time explaining more of the Holy Spirit and how He gives us the power to do and act as needed, because it is in the name of Jesus we have the authority, and how that we should pray to receive the Holy Spirit and pray for Him to take the lead in using us to complete God's will so that the Church can get fired up for saving the lost and showing our nation that God is indeed a reality.
