DATA TO DATA (D2D)

What is D2D? D2D is a series of proprietary communication protocols designed specifically for the automotive industry by our team of highly trained technical engineers. D2D stands for data to data and refers to the protocols used for the data interchange at the hardware device level (module to module) and protocols for data interchange at the application program level (Vehicle Interface Program.) D2D has multiple protocols at each layer in the communication exchange that both ends of the exchange must recognize and observe. This ensures that all of the data is accurately transmitted and received and even includes and check sum validation sequence.

Module to Module Data Connection

The other layer of communication protocol is used when two D2D compatible vehicle interface modules or systems communicate with each other via the data port. The practical benefits to the installer are a D2D connection eliminates the need to hard wire the analogue inputs and outputs between vehicle interface module and the host system (remote start, alarm etc.) A simple D2D cable provides all of the required communication that would otherwise require wire to wire connections with each and every analogue input or output of the host system.

D2D allows the host system (remote start, alarm etc.) to directly communicate via the vehicle interface module with the vehicles data bus. D2D is the gateway to the vehicles network (Data Bus) eliminating multiple analogue connections typically required during standard analogue (wire to wire) installations. An added benefit of D2D communication between a vehicle interface module and a host system such as a remote starter is the enhanced security. Traditional analogue methods of activating various functions (grounding an input) are no longer possible when D2D is detected. Once a vehicle interface module detects the D2D communication port in use, the analogue security related inputs on the module are disabled. This prevents security functions such as immobilizer override from being activated by external sources.

Bootloader (Weight: 0.5lbs, Dimensions (LxWxH): 35 x 40 x 20mm) USB to Upgradeable Vehicle Interface Adapter Module that integrated D2D and VIP technology. Upgradeable Vehicle Interface Adapter Module connects entire Xpresskit line up to the web providing the user with the ability to “RE-FLASH” each module with whatever solution they need when they need it. Unlimited downloading and AUTO DETECT ensures installer always have the latest critical updates.

CONNECTING A 2nd IGNITION / ACCESSORY / STARTER The system is equipped with a high current programmable 5th relay onboard that can be used to power a second ignition, accessory, or crank circuit. The unit uses 3 jumpers to select from. Each set of pin positions represents a function. In order to activate any one of 3 possible outputs, you must place the jumper (supplied) on one of three sets of pins. The ORANGE wire can then be connected to either the vehicle second IGNITION/ACCESSORY or CRANK wire. ONLY ONE OF THE THREE JUMPERS CAN BE USED AT ONE TIME. The factor y default is 2ND IGNITION.

DIESEL ENGINE INSTALLATION When the remote control system is programmed for DIESEL TIMEOUT (BANK 2, FUNCTION 1, OPTION 2) the system initiates a glow-plug time out phase which powers up the ignition when the remote start button is pressed, then waits for a period of 12 sec. before attempting to start (CRANK) the engine. The remote control system can be programmed for Diesel Glow Plug Monitoring (BANK 2, FUNCTION 1, OPTION 3) the system will monitor the glow-plug light using (Integralok INPUT) (SEE BANK 2, Function 1, Option 3) and crank the engine as soon as the glow plug light goes out. (2 diodes and a relay are required for this application)

FINDING (+) GLOW PLUG WIRE 1. Attach the (-) probe of the meter to ground chassis. 2. Probe the wire that you suspect leads to the bulb with the (+) probe of the meter. 3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. 4. If the meter indicates 12 V until the light goes out you have isolated the correct wire and the wire’s polarity is positive. 5. If the meter reads 0 Volts until the light goes out you have isolated the correct wire and the wire’s polarity is negative. (USE EXTERNAL RELAY)

TACH / VOLTAGE PROGRAMMING (MANDATORY) Note this is the first thing you should do after all wires have been connected. At least one transmitter must be programmed to the system before you can proceed with TACH / VOLTAGE programming. (Transmitter programming on previous page)

1) Open the hood. (Hood pin needs to be open to see a ground before programming can start). OPEN HOOD

2) Start the vehicle manually using the key and let the engine reach a normal idle (running for 2 to 3 mins.) Tech tip: Turn on Accessory (Heater/AC) to lower RPM when TACH/ VOLTAGE PROGRAMMING. START VEHICLE

3) Press and hold the brake pedal (brake is not released until programming is completed). HOLD BRAKE

4) Press START button twice*. PARKING LIGHTS will flash once then come ON and stay ON to indicate TACH/ VOLTAGE source detected. PRESS

(If parking lights do not come back on, please check TACH connection or locate another TACH source) *System Default is Double Instant Press for remote start. To change to a single Instant Button Press see Bank 2, Function 9)

5) RELEASE brake pedal to SAVE TACH setting. RELEASE BRAKE

PLEASE NOTE:

(If parking lights did not come back on, please check TACH connection or locate another TACH source.

6) Turn ignition key to the OFF position.

Tach Sense Wire connection is not necessary if using Voltage Sensing Mode.

ENGINE OFF

7) The parking lights will flash 2 times fast then 2 times slowly to confirm programming. Release brake.

(If parking lights flash 4 times, repeat programming steps 2-7.) CONFIRMATION

TACH ADJUSTMENT (ONLY IF ENGINE UNDER/OVER CRANK) 1) Open the hood. (Hood pin needs to be open to see a ground before programming can start). OPEN HOOD

2) Turn key to ON position. (Do Not Start) KEY ON

3) Press and hold the brake pedal down, HOLD BRAKE

PRESS

KEY OFF

4) Press the STAR button until parking lights come ON for 3 sec. then go OFF. Release button.

5) Turn ignition OFF, but do NOT RELEASE the brake pedal. Parking lights will flash 1 to 7 times according to actual programmed tach setting.

PRESS FOR X SETTING

6) The number of presses of the LOCK button determines the TACH cylinder setting. (i.e Press LOCK 3 times to select a tach setting of 3)

PRESS TO SAVE SETTING

7) To save new setting press and release the STAR button to save that setting. 8) The parking lights will flash 1 to 7 times according to the new tach setting. 1 second later, the parking lights will flash 2 times fast then 2 times slowly to confirm and exit tach programming.

CONFIRMATION To cancel setting, release brake or close hood before saving the entered setting

ENGINE OVER-CRANK PROTECTION The engine over-crank protection feature is designed to prevent the remote starter from engaging the engine’s starter motor unless the system detects and learns an engine run signal. EVERY system is shipped in the default ENGINE PROTECT MODE and must be unlocked by following the TACH /VOLTAGE PROGRAMMING steps at the top of this page. Even if you select Voltage Sensing Mode the ENGINE PROTECT MODE must be unlocked before the remote start system can be activated by remote transmitter. If the engine cranks the maximum crank time or if the system does not detect an engine run signal (tach pulse if in tach mode) during the first crank cycle the system will lock and prevent further crank attempts until the system either detects a tach signal and/or the TACH/VOLTAGE PROGRAMMING is completed. The diagnostic for this condition is 3 fast flashes when a remote start attempt is made. If the unit goes into ENGINE PROTECT MODE, verify that the tach wire is properly connected and start the engine using the key and let run for a few minutes. Stop the engine and retry using the remote transmitter. If the unit still goes in ENGINE PROTECT MODE, redo the TACH/VOLTAGE PROGRAMMING and or TACH ADJUSTMENT programming and/or try a different tach source. Under cranking or over cranking when using Voltage Sensing Mode can be corrected by connecting a tach wire and running the tach/voltage programming. DATA BUS to analogue TACH MODULES are also available for select vehicles. Pg9

WHAT IS RESERVATION MODE ? When the remote starter is installed on a manual transmission vehicle a ‘’ RESERVATION MODE’’ safety procedure must be followed EACH time the vehicle is exited. The safety procedure is in place to remind the user to leave the vehicle in NEUTRAL and NOT in gear before remote starting. If the safety procedure is not completed the vehicle WILL NOT remote start but all other options will function normally. The remote start system monitor the doors and handbrake at all times. It is essential that all doors and handbrake connections are functioning properly to ensure safe operation. This is the responsibility of the installer ! Installers must make sure all the entry points are monitored via the door pin connection. User’s must also make sure that all safety connections are operational and should also periodically test to ensure that all entry point connections are in fact functioning correctely.

PLEASE NOTE: The DTS8000 must be programmed with manual transmission remote start firmware. The firmware can be ordered preloaded on the system or can be FLASHED after purchase using an XKLOADER PC interface. Please contact 1-888-745-6449 for more information.

Connect this Green wire to the accessory wire which supplies +12VDC to the Heater/AC vehicle circuit. This circuit normally tests when the ignition key is in the ignition "on" position, but not during "start" (crank) cycle. Connect this Yellow wire to the start wire which supplies +12VDC to the Start/Crank circuit (Solenoid side if installing with starter kill feature). In certain vehicles there are two start wires, so the Yellow wire should be connected to the one which activates the start motor. In order to activate the 2nd start circuit either use the Progammable output or external relay.

WIRE FUNCTIONS This Yellow/Black wire is the Input of the parking lights built-in relay. If you were to connect this wire to GROUND then the Orange/Black (parking light output) wire would emit a NEGATIVE (-) output. If you were to connect this wire to POSITIVE 12 volts (+) then the Orange/Black (parking light output) wire would emit a POSITIVE (+) output. This Black wire is the system ground Input wire. Connect it to a paint free clean piece of Chassis metal for a ground source. Never ground this wire to the “steering column” itself. This Orange/Black wire is a built-in relay output, which supplies the parking lights of the vehicle. The Orange/Black wire is an output that is fed by the Yellow/Black wire input. Example: Connect the Orange/Black wire to the vehicles parking light wire, if the parking lights are a POSITIVE 12 volts (+) (when tested) then connect Yellow/Black wire to a 12volt constant. If the vehicles parking lights were NEGATIVE (-) (when tested) then the Yellow/Black wire would go to a true chassis ground.

Chassis Ground This Black wire is the system ground Input wire. Connect it to a paint free clean piece of Chassis metal for a ground source. Never ground this wire to the “steering column” itself.

Tachometer coil The Blue wire is used to detect when the vehicles engine has started and is running in order to disengage the starter or fuel injector output circuit (Bank 2, Function 7, Option 1). This is achieved with the connection of this wire to either the tachometer, coil or uncommon colored wire on any of the fuel injectors. All of these circuits are of AC current and can be found by wires using the AC setting on a digital voltmeter. With the engine running the meter will show a reading of between 1-6 volts and will increase with acceleration and decrease with deceleration of the gas pedal. If there is an issue with any of these tach sources, then the Blue wire can be programmed and used as the negative side of a vacuum switch (Bank 2, Function 7, Option 3).

This wire supplies a negative signal when the door(s) is opened. Also, when using the programmable ALARM features, if there is more than 1-door pin switch wire, then use diodes to isolate these circuits from feeding back into each other. It may be necessary to add a relay in order to increase output of door pin switch. If door pin switch is positive a relay is required to convert.

This wire can be programmed to initiate start up from an auxiliary device such as a factory keyless entry system, remote alarm, Timer, or Temperature Sensor (Bank 1, Function 8, Option 2 & 3). As well, can be used as an ALARM INPUT TRIGGER (automatic vehicles only) (Bank 1, Function 8, Option 1). The Yellow wire can be used for Diesel Glow Plug Monitoring, (Bank 2, Function 1, Option 3). When the glow plug light turns off the DTS800 will now Cranking the engine as soon as the glow plug light goes out. In certain diesel vehicles it maybe necessary for this connect where as the 12-second Glow Plug time-out (Bank 2, Function 1, Option 3) is to long or short. system monitors the glow-plug light in order to using J2-PIN #10 (Brake Input) and crank the engine as soon as the glow plug light goes out. With the use of relay this output supplies a domelight supervision feature. With the press of the transmitter unlock button the dome comes on to illuminate the interior of the vehicle.

DATA TO DATA (D2D) COMMUNICATION PORT Optional use of 4 Pin Data to Data (D2D) cable plus an XPRESSKIT Vehicle Interface module can significantly reduce the number of analogue connections required for remote starting and related security & convenience functions. Additionally the use of a D2D cable significantly enhances the overall security & integrity of the installation. As much as 75% of the analogue (W2W) wire to wire connections between the remote starter module and the vehicle can be eliminated through the use of the vehicles data bus port. D2D cable and compatible XPRESSKIT vehicle interface module required. Visit www.xpresskit.com for detailed D2D vehicle functions listings. Pg12
