Courteney McClutchy Week 9 Drafting Journal 16 March 2019 Death Robert brought Sam to the doctors late that afternoon after a great night of being out. The two always go out for drinks Friday nights after work, it has been a tradition for the last five years but last night, one of the girls who had been flirting with Sam for a while pointed out a mole that was on the back of his hand. Sam mentioned that it had been there for a while and not to worry but Robert overheard the conversation and knew Sam had a tendency to put off things like this. It’s now the next morning and the two just go into a walk in clinic, Robert taking in the reluctant Sam to see one of the clinic professionals. Robert wasn’t allowed to go into the check up with Sam so he just waited outside. After what seemed like lightyears later, Sam finally came out with stacks of paper work and a sick look on his face. Robert knew that wasn’t good because Sam was the guy with a smile on his face just about all the time. It was the drive home when Robert knew, this might be the last sense of normality Sam would have. When they got into Sam’s house and settled on the couch, he revealed his deathly growth and how he only had one more week to live. Robert, speechless, jumped into immediate action to get everything ready for Sam so he would feel like he was going and leaving nothing undone. He organized family and friends to see him at the house, a small gathering the following day and a night where all his favorite foods were delivered to the house. The funeral was certainly one to remember and Robert was left sitting in Sam’s empty apartment in the following hours. He realized how he had spent the last week giving all of his energy to everything but his own feelings and in the rush of a wave, his emotions completely took over him and he collapsed to the ground sobbing. If it wasn’t for Sam’s mom, Robert wouldn’t have made it through these next few days, he had a great relationship with her because Roberts parents passed when he was very young. Every day he would go to her house for breakfast and talk for hours about all the things the loved and missed about Sam. Each night, no matter how much healing he experienced during the day with Sam’s feelings, he still would sit in his room and cut off all communication to sit and allow himself to feel, he didn’t want to talk or be around anyone until he would go to Sam’s mom’s house in the morning.
