IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY

INTRODUCTION

Media by definition is a means of mass communication. It is the main vessel to make the information become available for everyone. In modern world technology reigns. Some of us associate technology to media. Both (technology and media) can be associated from each other but both are definitely different. Media as what mentioned earlier, is a means of mass communication on the other hand, technology

is a scientific method of achieving a practical purpose. Media in connection to technology is that technology may become the tool to intensify media.

In a world today, where we live with advancing technologies. Communication became possible even from the farthest area. Through cellphones, internet, televisions, and even radios. Through this, media became more accessible almost for everybody. But access to media has its own advantage and disadvantage. It is true that media equipped us with information but the question of “how” makes the fact that the validity of information is sometimes opinion if not fact. By this we should always have a critical observation to the information we gather in every field of study.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

What TV program do you prefer the most? Why do you like that particular

program?

II. What insights do you get from that program? Does it help you in your everyday living? III. How do you relate with the characters experiences? Are you affected by there experience? IV. If you were given the chance to talk with the executive network owner what would you tell them?

SUMMARY OF THE INTERVIEW

First Family

The first family as interviewed seems to be a jovial type of family. As observed they got a surplus television which we assume qualified for the interview. The families choice of television programs are just typical teledramas including the Ang Probinsyano, Laluna Sangre and etc. For more mature members of the family, they prefer watching news like TV Patrol and 24 Oras. According to them they prefer those pragrams because they were entertained most of the time. For the the news they just want to become updated on the latest issues. In most dramas according to them they seem to relate them selves and were affected by the lead actor or the protagonist in the story.

Second Family

The second family has a typical modern house with two televisions and Cable connection. For this, they are qualified to be interviewed regarding media. The family’s choice of programs were unique. For younger members of the family, they prefer Cartoon Network, Iflix and Discoveries. For older members more often than not if they are watching television, they prefer to watch News like TV Patrol and CNN.

According to them the programs they are watching gives them imagination of the things none existent. This explains the type of program they are watching were most probably fictional. For news, well obviously they just want to keep in touch to current events or latest happenings.

Third Family

This family is similar to the first family being interviewed. However most of the family prefer to watch TV patrol only. Not that they have limited access to channels but this is their personal choice to watch.

Fourth Family

This Family is a typical family also with four members, (parents and two children). for parents, they were enthusiast viewer, solid fan of Ang Probinsyano, a Television series of ABS-CBN featuring Coco Martin as the protagonist lead Actor. They have become aware of the terrorism, drug addiction and other societal issues. The Teleserye also gives tips on how to avoid tragedies. They have felt sympathy towards the drama every time they watch it.

Fifth Family

RECOMENDATION

Base on the gathered data, whatever type of TV programs we watch we seemed to adapt the ambiance or the nature of the program. As per observed, we highly recommend the presence of parents whenever they let the students watch the television. The young mind of children are portals to future. It will depend on how we harness their mind that will build the future.

CONCLUSION

We understand the nature of media as it gives information to every people. But in conclusion the effect will depend on the type of program the viewer watched. For instance those who watch teleseryes with seem to relate them selves and often

think that life is a teleserye also. Those who indulge in watching news and discoveries they were obviously an informative people.

The survey base on the interview shows that more of the filipino families were fund of watching drama and news. Most of them also were sympathetic in watching them.
