Road Surface The road is metalled from Gilgit until 5km after Phandur. On the Chitral side the road is metalled until Buni. Between 206km and 269km the road is very rocky!!!!!! The worst section is the 14km detour over the river between Mastuj and Saragus. In 2008 they were building a bridge and road on the other side of the river so in the near future this could become the main road. Much of the steep climbing is not possible to ride and you WILL TERU (3250m) push. The 9km from Sorlaspur to the plateau is very difficult. Assume 2-3 hours because of the rocks. Camping on the Pass GULAKTURI (3000m) In summer you could camp anywhere on the high plateau, there PHANDUR is plenty of water around. (2950m) Places to Stay Many Hotels are seasonal and sometimes you will need to find the owner. We found that if we were stuck somebody gave us a room or helped us find the caretaker.

Shops There are many small villages that we haven't mentioned. They often have shops although they only sell biscuits or sometimes some sweets.
