Isolated and sorted locationspecific place cells and non-specific theta cells. Statistically compared firing rates and patterns in knockout and control animals. •

Independent Research Project, August 2007 to February 2008 Effects of antioxidants on rat place cell activity Tested the effects of various antioxidants and a proprietary drug on place cell activity in the rat hippocampus. Recorded place cells using implanted microelectrodes and recording software. Analyzed data to determine differences in place cell firing rate or place field specificity.

Undergraduate Research Assistant, December 2006 to August 2007 Assisted graduate students with place cell unit recording and data analysis. Performed perfusions, sliced and stained brains, made and surgically implanted electrodes, and trained and handled rats.

Dissected, mounted, and stained larval eye discs and used a confocal microscope to view gene expression patterns.
