University of XXXXX, City, State • Honors Thesis Project, February 2008 to present Changes in place cell activity after a conditional Cdk5 knockout Stereotaxically implanted and recorded place cells in the hippocampus of transgenic Cdk5 knockout mice undergoing a barrel maze foraging task. Isolated and sorted locationspecific place cells and non-specific theta cells. Statistically compared firing rates and patterns in knockout and control animals. •
Independent Research Project, August 2007 to February 2008 Effects of antioxidants on rat place cell activity Tested the effects of various antioxidants and a proprietary drug on place cell activity in the rat hippocampus. Recorded place cells using implanted microelectrodes and recording software. Analyzed data to determine differences in place cell firing rate or place field specificity.
•
Undergraduate Research Assistant, December 2006 to August 2007 Assisted graduate students with place cell unit recording and data analysis. Performed perfusions, sliced and stained brains, made and surgically implanted electrodes, and trained and handled rats.
XXXXX College of Medicine, City, State • XXXXX Summer Research Program, May 2008 to July 2008 Regulation of eyeless in Drosophila eye development Used a GAL4-UAS system to ectopically express genes or combinations of genes that could repress eyeless gene in Drosophila. Dissected, mounted, and stained larval eye discs and used a confocal microscope to view gene expression patterns.
