Derby Homes Customer Care Charter - Tacking Anti-social Behaviour
We use the following definition of anti-social behaviour taken from the Crime & Disorder Act 1998: “Behaviour that causes or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons not of the same household”. There are many types of behaviour considered to be anti-social, some of these are listed below; • • • • • •
Excessive noise Unruly behaviour Selling drugs or drug abuse Excessive vehicle repairs Storing scrap Playing ball games in the street or close to someone else’s home.
Anti-social behaviour may or may not amount to a criminal act. What is
important is the effect of the behaviour on other people. All tenants sign a tenancy agreement which clearly sets out tenants’ responsibilities regarding not causing antisocial behaviour or nuisance to other people. If you are a victim of antisocial behaviour you should report it to your Housing Office. We will: • acknowledge all complaints about antisocial behaviour on the day we receive them • interview you within 5 working days • interview the perpetrator(s) within 7 working days (with your permission) • take action against perpetrators of antisocial behaviour and harassment
• identify and take action against tenants who breach their tenancy agreement • keep you fully informed of what is happening whilst we investigate your complaint. Action we take may include: • acceptable behaviour contracts – ABCs • anti-social behaviour orders – ASBOs • injunctions • possession proceedings – EVICTION.
Derby Homes works in partnership with Derby City Council Crime and Safety Partnership and the Police, to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour. You can obtain a full copy of our anti-social behaviour strategy from our website visit www.derbyhomes.org/asb
