MDG Results:    

Live on less than $1.25 per day dropped by more than half Number of kids not in school dropped by more than half People getting life-saving treatment for HIV increased by 15 times Child mortality down by almost half

There are still more to do: -

Over 800 million people still living on less than a $1.25 a day 1/9 people are hungry each night Deforestation remains alarmingly high Ocean are becoming more acidic which threatens food security and marine ecosystem 1/6 adults is illiterate: 2/3 are women

What is sustainable development? -

To make the world a better place for everyone without destroying the possibilities for the next generation Something we do over and over again Improving the lives of everyone, everywhere and achieving all together Keep three things in mind: Social Progress, Economic Growth, Environmental Protection  Take care of our planet  Balance natural ecosystems  Climate system - temperature is correct and the atmosphere emits exactly right amount of solar energy  Greenhouse gases like co2 clog the atmosphere which changes the temperature of the Earth  Oil and coal we may run out of  Using sources of energy that renew themselves is good for the planet  Economics  Smart use of natural resources  Better systems we create for a fair distribution  Be more aware of what we buy and how it is produced  Fair rules that applies to everyone  Social progress  Equal opportunities, education, safety, food, medicine  Thinking of new ways

The 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to transform our world: GOAL 1: No Poverty  Nobody lives in extreme poverty GOAL 2: Zero Hunger  No one goes hungry, wakes in the morning asking if there will be food today GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being  Live in a world where no child die of diseases  Know how to cure and proper health care is a lifelong right for us all GOAL 4: Quality Education  Everyone goals to school
