We recognize that you may have a significant investment in the content you have developed for Class Server with the Learning Resource Editor as well as investments in staff professional development using the Learning Re-
Technology Transition Period Many institutions may not upgrade to SLK & SharePoint 2007 for a year or more. We want to support institutions that wish to continue using Class Server and SharePoint 2003 as they transition. Effective immediately, we have waived the user and machine CAL requirement for all Class Server 4 users. Also, for owners of a Class Server 4 – Server license, we now allow the licensee to replicate and use the Server in perpetuity. (You must continue using Windows XP and IE6 to continue using Class Server.) It is our hope that these accommodations let you get the most from your Class Server 4 investment while you evaluate SharePoint 2007 and SharePoint Learning Kit.
Class Server Support
Migrating to SLK
Users worldwide can now use an international vendor for Class Server and Learning Gateway support on Windows XP and IE6. This model is the same as has been used in Europe and Asia for some time now. US customers will enjoy Learning Gateway support along with their Class Server support for the first time. Support incidents with this vendor have been pre-paid by Microsoft through 2007.
Learning Resources – Class Server learning resources will work in SLK SharePoint 2003 Sites – SLK requires SharePoint 2007. Class Server web parts do not work in SharePoint 2007, and must be removed by a manual process Provisioning Data – SLK gets its class, student, and teacher data from SharePoint site structure and membership. There is no need to migrate Class Server provisioning. Historical Student Assignment Data - No migration tool included. (Please check www.LearningGateway.net for the latest info on migration tools that may be available)
Create assignments directly from the content repository in which you find them. No copy-paste manipulation means technology that is easier to use.
