Detailed summary of events: In South Africa there is a beautiful valley with green rolling hills. Birds sing. It is a beautiful valley with Kloof. Vocabulary log: Kloof (noun)- a steep-sided, wooded ravine or valley. Shod- past and past principle of shoe. Chapter 2 Characters: Umfundisi/ Rev. Stephen Kumalo, Mother, Small Child, Absalom, Aunt Gertrude, Theophilus Msimangu, Brother John. Detailed summary of events: Reverend Kumalo receives a letter delivered by a small child and is hesitant to read it because it could have information pertaining to his and his wife’s missing son Absalom. Absalom went to Johannesburg to learn and he never returned, Brother John went to Johannesburg to be a carpenter and Aunt Gertrude also went to Johannesburg and none of them ever returned, Reverend Kumalo has to go to Sophiasburg to help take care of Aunt Gertrude.
