POPI‐Slovakia (The Institute of Processoriented Psychology ‐ www.processwork.sk)
under the auspices of Slovak Psychotherapeutic Society invites you to a seminar about the topic:
Crazy Wisdom: exploring a process‐oriented approach to altered and extreme states
25‐27.september 2009 in Modra, Harmonia (near Bratislava), Slovakia led by Clare Hill and Conor McKenna Most of us experience unusual states at some point in our lives. Many are actively sought – such as the exhilaration of bungee jumping or different awareness after taking drugs. Some are less voluntary, and creep up on us. Whether a period of anxiety and depression, psychosis, or behaviors which confuse even ourselves, there is often a pattern within the states which, when brought to awareness, can be beneficial to the overall well‐being of the individual. One of the phenomena around altered and extreme states is that the rest of us tend to freeze or avoid them. Over the weekend we will also be looking at society's relationship to different ways of being, discovering our own more marginalized states, and how traumatic or extreme experiences can be 'carried on' within generations of families. Using the approaches developed by Drs. Arny and Amy Mindell, we will also walk the connections between the 'extreme' and everyday reality, and their roots in the essential nature of our beings. Biographies: Conor and Clare, founder members of Process Oriented Psychology in the UK, have been in both professional and personal partnership since 1990. They have recently returned from 6 months voluntary work in Belize, where they worked extensively with altered and extreme states. They are resuming their practices in Edinburgh and teaching throughout the UK and on the Continent.

Like every human being, people in withdrawn states also need contact, relationship, and support in their existential experiences on their inner journey. Process‐oriented Coma Work offers methods and approaches to connect with patients in nonverbal states and to support communication with, and understanding for, patients' experiences. It offers ways to explore and deepen the awareness of our own altered states of consciousness as basic prerequisite in building relationship with people who are presumed to be unconscious. This one day seminar will give an introduction, demonstration, and practical experience in Process‐oriented Coma Work. This workshop is designed for relatives, nurses, clinical pastoral caretakers, hospice workers, psychologists, physicians, and all people interested in this methods.
