Program Covenant This program offers an opportunity for students to develop a sense of place in community – possible communities include family and neighborhood, workplace and college, places of worship and places for play. Students can expect to learn about varied community structures and systems of power, about opportunities for personal action and about American traditions of community participation. In addition, students can expect to learn how two very different disciplines play special roles in shaping and transforming communities: the arts and evolutionary psychology. All students will learn to use a variety of tools for creative and academic expression – writing, interviewing, transcription and editing. We will develop proficiencies with computer technology as well. Students will also have the chance to develop collaborative working relationships with peers. Listed below are the minimal standards for credit in the program. We assume that you all understand that you are responsible for your learning and will therefore aim high and set personal standards that stretch your intellectual, physical and expressive potential. All students and faculty in this program will: Take active responsibility for our actions and learning Abide by the principles of the social contract, student conduct code and faculty code Submit final self and faculty evaluations in a timely manner Follow through on commitments made to others in team work situations Participate in discussions and class activities Reflect on the learning through writing and dialogue; and Resolve conflict in a timely manner either informally or using college mandated grievance procedures The minimum bases for awarding credit in this program are: Submission of all assignments Full and regular attendance at all program activities Attendance at an evaluation conference every quarter and completion of self and faculty evaluations On leaving the program, completion of a self evaluation for the transcript Credit equivalencies fall quarter will include some combination of communication skills, community and family studies, and psycholinguistics. Partial credit will not be awarded for any isolated component of this program -- the learning is integrated and the credit depends on completion of all components of the program. Assigned work must be completed and submitted on time. Incompletes generally will not be granted, except in unusual circumstances.
