Does Source B support the evidence of Source C about the suffragette campaign? Explain your answer. B) Source B supports source C in some aspects, for example the language. In source B a suffragette expresses her views in a ‘shrill cry’, and in source C the suffragette is described as the ‘SHRIEKING SISTER’, both sources show the women acting undignified and unladylike, the two source both convey the disapproval upon the outgoing methods. Source C is a cartoon created by Bernard Partridge, in the political cartoon a suffragette looks more animalistic than human, showing she’s more concerned about being a Suffragette, than a Lady. You wouldn’t think the loud woman could run a respectable household, or fulfil the traditional roles of a Victorian woman. Source B supports source C as the title of source B is ‘Woman or Suffragette’, showing that the author, Marie Corelli, believes that you cannot be both as well. However Source B does not support source C completely as the two creators of the sources have different views. Corelli doesn’t believe that women should gain the vote though campaign, instead that ‘the way in which mothers have reared their sons’ is the reason for their limited rights, to change their rights they should change the way they raise their sons. Partridge undermines the suffragette’s cause, by stating through the suffragists that the suffragette is their cause’s ‘worst enemy!’ However, he draws the suffragists looking demure and respectable, showing he doesn’t dislike suffragists. Overall, I believe that Source B supports source C as both show the brash methods of Suffragettes and both creators express their distaste in their methods.
