N.B The after school workshops are each a combination of Pen literacy and National Library professional development for all teachers in year group clusters. This means that instead of attending one PEN and one National Library after school workshop there is only ONE per term. For those schools not yet involved in the library project this is a good opportunity for you to also be involved in the pd with the rest of the cluster, in anticipation of your involvement later in the year. NOTE: Alison will discuss the library links within the project at our principal’s meeting so that everyone is clear on how the project works and how it links to our work. ANP Numeracy dates for 2007
ANP (Advanced Numeracy Project) Workshop dates for 2007 Numeracy advisers will be in touch with participating schools with more details including workshop focuses and content. The numeracy team have not planned an ANP TOD (teacher only day) for next year.

Congratulation to all three and we look forward to working with them in the future STAR DATA Results of the STAR data from 2006 is now available. Specific feedback on each individual schools data has been forwarded to schools by our Literacy facilitator Alison Davis. In addition each school can compare its results with all other pen schools, although individual schools cant be identified. One or two schools may be concerned by their results and considering a way forward. Congratulations to those who have made significant gains. STAR data will be collected and collated 3 times again this year – March -MidyearNov. Running Records twice in March and November. Writing – No collection but schools will follow their own policy on writing assessment in 2007.
Steering Committee

7 Composition of the Steering Committee was agreed to at the Principals Hui held in November last year. Welcome to the new members of the SC this year; Anthony Fisher, Maria Hamill and Mandy Duggan. Also welcome back to Marlene Julian after her “jaunt” around the globe. We still have two vacancies _ junior pen pal and Tiaki Tangata. Pen principals Meeting Support was expressed for a senior management seminar to be held again in 2007 (possibly term 3). Brian Annan was our key note speaker at the equivalent seminar last year. This year there is the possibility of having either Helen Timperly or Pam O’Connell. Organisation of the senior management seminar may be released later in the term. New Lead Teachers; Principals supported the concept of providing PD for a new wave of pen pals in term 2. There was recognition that this initiative would help to address the roadblocks to sustainability on the pen project. Not all schools can participate in this, but for those able, workshops are planned in relation to this. Funding for relief teachers is being looked at and is a distinct probability. With high turn over of lead teachers, this is a positive move to fill that potential void. Alison Harold explained her roll in the pen project to the principals. There was discussion around the increased monitoring of Stanine 1-3 pupils. Home school partnerships again discussed. National library advisers were present to talk on the strengthening school library programmes and how it could be interlinked with pen and principals had the opportunity to go online to explore some of the resources available through Nat Lib to schools.
