Confirmation on Institutionalizing Walk for Life Another glorious moment has come. According to a letter from “Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas” national president Ma. Julieta F. Wasan, Ph.D, due to the successful consecutive Walk for Life events from 2017 and 2018, the institutionalization of the celebrated "Walk for Life" has been ultimately confirmed as a yearly event. Walk for Life is a marching event founded by the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas that supports Christian and Humanitarian values to protect the weak and defenseless. Walk for Life is assembled by priests, bishops, church personnel, those faithful to the church and those with a stand in preserving life of all. Walking hand-in-hand, the participants show themselves as supporters of the Christian values. Through this event, spiritual goals are strengthened with the unity of all who attend, such as preserving the Church values of life; a great example of this is the opposition against the filing of divorce and abortion. Another is supporting the marginalized communities, those who have experienced abuse, neglect and denied of their human rights. Apart from this, is inspiring action or protest against cruelty and killings with one example pertaining to the extra judicial killings resulted from the war against drugs and drug abuse. The first Walk for Life event took place at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, last February 18, 2017. Attended by thousands of members of Catholic and Christian Churches, and from religious and non-religious organizations, the event was initiated as a symbolic moment during the times of crises due to extra judicial killings and the proposal of the repealing the death penalty. In the following year, Walk for Life was initiated again on February 24, 2018 at the same location, as a reaffirmation of commitment of the people standing up against cruelty, murder, and injustice. With the countless killings unbecoming of the society due to the war on drugs, and the stand against the proposal of abortion and death penalty, the dignity of life of the people remain in disease. However, the people stood proud and marched even prouder against these cruel moments in the Philippines’ history of life. This year, it has been decided that the Walk for Life will conclude by 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on February 16, 2019 at the Quezon City Memorial Circle, Quezon City and a Eucharistic celebration to be led by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle.
