RESEARCH WRITING GUIDE SEMINAR AND WORKSHOP September 2, 2017 and September 9, 2017 Level III and Level IV Students of the College of Nursing Philippine Nursing Research Society MCNP cell, Student Nurses Society, Research and Development Center

RATIONALE

Research and development plays a vital role in providing solutions to existing predicaments of the society, and it brings innovation and reforms that pave way to the progress, hence, countries all over the world are investing so much in research and development. The Health care industry has long been inclined to research in order to improve the health services, and ensure safe and efficient health care delivery system. In nursing practice, evidence based practice has been contributing a lot in the improvement of nursing process and enrichment of knowledge. It is imbibed in the nursing profession the responsibility of every nurses to contribute in the generation and formulation of new knowledge and ideas. It is therefore vital that nurses are trained to create scholarly researches that can be instrumental in the upliftment of the quality of life of every person. However, it is no denying that up to now, majority of the nurses, especially student nurses are still facing difficulty in crafting researches that are of good quality and are responsive to the needs of the society. Given the tedious work, and technicalities in writing research, individuals hardly comply to the standards of research, hence, there is a need to implement additional activities aside from their research subjects to augment their learning and training. The Medical Colleges of Northern Philippines mold its graduates to become innovative researchers by creating experiences and opportunities to hone their skills and knowledge in the formulation of quality researches because a true mighty eagle must also be research oriented. The research writing guide seminar will strengthen and reinforce the basic skills and knowledge of the faculty and students in doing research studies, thus, pave way to greater research involvement and ultimately establishment of research culture in the college.

OBJECTIVES General Objective: The Research writing guide seminar and workshop provides and avenue for nursing faculty and students to enrich their knowledge and skills in research. This will further motivate them to engage in making quality and significant researches contributing not only to nursing profession, but to the society as well. Specific Objectives:  

Create a research culture among faculty and students that will paved way to more research outputs and engagements. Orient the students with the Institutional research Agenda, framework and guidelines

   

Update students with trends and issues in research and their possible effect to nursing practice and education. Enrich the basic skills of students in identifying research topic, gathering literatures, formulating hypotheses and developing research simulacrum. Familiarize the students with the different statistical tools in research, how to use them, and when to use them. Train students in using statistical software that aid in the data treatment and analysis.

GUIDELINES The following are the specific guidelines to be followed to assure the smooth flow and implementation on the conduct of this program. This area is divided into three portions, the planning phase, implementation phase and the evaluation phase. Planning 1. This program is an initiative of the Philippine Nursing Research Society MCNP cell in collaboration with the Student Nurses Society, and the Research and Development Center. 2. A meeting was conducted by the dean of the College of Nursing who is also the president of the PNRS MCNP cell with the faculty of the College of Nursing and the Officers of PNRS to discuss and plan the implementation of the activity. 3. In the said meeting, the purpose, objectives, and significance of the activity were presented. The different activities were identified and speakers were selected upon the nomination of the attendees. 4. Committees were formed to assign and delegate different functions that are necessary in the preparation and implementation of the activity. 5. Consultation with the Research and Development Center was initiated by the Research Focal person of the College to discuss the possibility of having the activity. 6. Upon the approval of the body, this concept paper was drafted to ask permission from the administration for the conduct of the activity. 7. Upon approval of this concept paper, there will be series of meetings to ensure an effective implementation of the activity. 8. A letter of invitation will be sent to the resource speakers. These letters will be personally handed by the organizers to get the approval of the speakers, and to discuss to them the details of the activity. 9. The organizers will have a consultation meeting with the participants (BSN III and IV) to discuss to them the purpose and objectives of the activity, and the different activities that will be implemented. 10. Needed materials and venues to be used for this activity will be properly coordinated to the Offices of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President for Administration and Finance and the General Services office. 11. Certificates and tokens will be prepared for the resource speakers as a sign of gratitude. 12. The committee on set and design will prepare the venue a day before the activity. Implementation 1. The conduct of this activity will be the responsibility of its organizers, the Philippine Nursing Research Society MCNP cell in collaboration with the Student Nurses Society, and the Research and Development Center. 2. The activity will be implemented on September 2 and 9, 2017 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Nursing AVR. 3. All participants are expected to be in their complete uniform (clinical) during the activity. 4. The registration will take place from 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM. Committee on registration are expected to be in the venue early. 5. The committee on transportation must ensure that a vehicle will be available in time to fetch the resource speakers. 6. The program will start at 8:00 AM. It is expected that during this time all students will already be inside the venue. 7. In the morning, a resource speakers will share their expertise on the topic given, an open forum will follow after each talk.

8. In the afternoon, the staff of the Research and Development Center will facilitate the workshop. 9. The output of the participants will be presented and will be critiqued by the facilitators. 10. After the activity, the organizers must ensure that the venue will be left clean and in order.

Evaluation 1. To evaluate whether he activity has achieved its goals and objectives, a meeting will be conducted among the organizers and there shall be discussion of the different activities that took place. 2. An evaluation of the learning of the participants will be done through an evaluation tool. The result will be discussed during the meeting.
