Computer Networking

Topology A network topology is defined as the physical layout of the network in which all the devices are connected.

Types of Topology • • • • •

Star Topology Bus Topology Ring Topology Tree Topology Hybrid Topology

Star Topology Central Computer act as a Master Computer and data is send and receive through this computer.

Bus Topology In a bus network configuration, each node is connected to one main communications line.

Ring Topology In a ring network, messages travel in one direction around a ring from node to node.

Types of Network • LAN (Local Area Network) • WAN (Wide Area Network) • MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)

Local Area Network If a network is confined to a single location, typically a building, it is called a Local Area Network(LAN)

Wide Area Network When a network is located over wide areas, such as cities, states, countries ,it is called a Wide Area Network (WAN).

Metropolitan Area Network A Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) connects computers distributed across multiple buildings on a school campus.

Advantages of Networking 

Allowing simultaneous access to programs & data. Allowing users to share peripherals devices such as scanners & printers. Making easy backup procedures.
