Portfolio Directions
These directions are meant to augment the sample portfolio that has been made available to you. You will note that the specific requirements are listed in reverse order. In other words they begin with your reference section and end with your self-assessment. This is because Blogger posts items in chronological fashion i.e. Your newest posts always display on top. In our coursework our early classes are related to legislation. As such, these should be your earliest posts and subsequently be seen as later posts in your portfolio. Conversely, the self-assessment exercise is one of the last things you do. It will show up on your first page. Some key things to do early on include: 1. Setting up your account as per the instruction sheet provided. 2. In the layout page add the subscription links gadget. The pictures below illustrate the steps

Sequence and Instructions for portfolio As mentioned the directions are being offered in reverse order to how your final product should look. You might have some postings occur out of order. It is easy to correct for this and it is important that the postings are in the correct order. Important Note: This might be the only time you can cut and paste for a college assignment. When it is permitted I will note it. 6.8 Regulated Health Professions Act Here you can create your post and copy the link provided in my sample portfolio 6.7 Massage Therapy Act You can copy and paste here as well. Make sure you get all three links 6.6 Bulletins and Guidelines Again you can copy and paste. Make sure you list all the bulletins and guidelines and have an active web link 6.5 Bylaws Same as the bulletins and guidelines post. You want to list them all and have an active web link 6.4 Position Statements Here you will have a list of the nine position statements which are hyperlinked to the appropriate web page 6.3 Policy Statements A little more detailed. Again you want to list all the policy statements (with appropriate hyperlinks) as well as the web page that explains policy and position statements 6.2 Standards of Practice Again as with all the posts in section six it is OK to cut and paste. Have an active link to the web page that introduces the Standards of practice. Then list all the relevant standards. Your last task here is to link to the web page where all of them can be accessed.

4.1 Example Reference Again this is an optional section for this assignment. In the future you can post references that are meaningful to you. 4.0 Reference Section Again a brief introduction to this section. You might include a brief blurb on the types of references that you will post there.
3.5 Communication Worksheet Simply follow the directions on the sample blog. I include them here for your reference.

Identify what sort of learner (pick three) you are in certain situations. Identify some implications of being a poor listener in the context of being a massage therapist. List three benefits to improving your listening skills. Post your answers in this part of your portfolio.
3.4 Conflict Resolution Worksheet Another exercise. This time you visit a couple of sites and post reflections in this section of your blog. The directions are here for your reference. Activity #1 The Power Differential Throughout the program we have discussed aspects of power differential between therapist and client. Please visit this website. This is a learning object that pertains to power differentials. Please complete the exercise. Where do you see massage therapists having power in positions of conflict. Are there different power dynamics when in conflict with a client, a colleague, etc? Post your reflection in this section of your portfolio. Activity #2: A theory about Conflict Resolution The next site relates to a particular theory about conflict resolution. Please note that this is but one theory and may not be applicable in all situations. Please complete the exercise on the webpage and then copy and paste it to this section of your portfolio.
3.3 Diversity Worksheet Again you are to visit a couple of sites and then post your own reflections in this section of your portfolio. I have included the directions for your reference. Activity #1: Culturally-sensitive Care Please visit this website. 1. After reviewing the web page what does client-centered care mean to you? How do you see diversity fitting into your philosophy of care? 2. Review the guidelines provided on the web page. Do any of them "speak to you"? Is there anything from your personal experience that relates to the guidelines? Please post your answers in this section of your portfolio. Activity #2: Stereotyping Please visit this website. This particular website is a learning object that relates to stereotyping. Complete the questions and then copy and past them to this part of your portfolio. 3.2 My Learning Style Worksheet The site here links to a survey which will help you identify your learning preferences. Do the survey and post your reflections in this section of your portfolio. I have included the directions here for your reference. One of the most interesting aspects of learning is that we all have our particular preferences. For example, some may lean towards visual learning whereas others may be more adept at listening. This exercise involves you completing a survey and then posting your reflections in your portfolio. Visit this site for the survey. It will only take a few minutes. Later you can explore the other resources available on the site if you wish. Begin to reflect on what your personal learning style means to your studies. Hopefully you will have a new insight into the learning style that makes you unique. Please answer the following questions in this part of your portfolio. 1. What is your learning preference? Did you now this previous to the survey? 2. What strategies might not work for you in the classroom or lab? 3. What strategies would work for you or which would you like to try?
3.1 My Personal Theory of Practice Worksheet Here post your reflections on your personal theory of practice based on the direction found in the sample portfolio. I have included them here for your reference. Please reflect and post responses to the following statements in this part of your portfolio. 1. For me massage is... 2. My goal(s) for my practice is... To help in this process think about the types of clients you would like to work with and where you foresee yourself in three, five and ten years. 3.0 Worksheets Section Copy and paste this from the sample post. It is the introduction to the worksheet section.
2.3 A Tool for Reflection For this section you simply have to copy the document. You do this by clicking on the ipaper button. You can then copy the code and past it into your posting for this section.

2.2 Peer Feedback Guidelines Copy the document to this section of your portfolio as per the directions above. 2.1 Peer Feedback/ Reflective Practice Section Provide a brief blurb on this section of your portfolio and why you think it is important.
1.5 Complete the time-line Follow the directions on the sample portfolio. I include the here for your reference. Use the development plan above to create and Action Plan. In the first column set a reasonable time-line for completing your development. Take into consideration the method you plan to use and how long it will take, consider you schedule, vacation, etc. In the second column indicate how you will determine your success in learning and applying the knowledge or skills. This may through feedback form peers or instructors.
1.4 Building a Development Plan Print off the development log and use it to create you plan based on your selfassessment. I include the directions here for your reference. Using the Development Log write the development statement in the first column. In the second column, write down both the actual competency and development statement. Now, identify how you plan to develop that particular knowledge or skill. There are many different ways to learn. Add this information to the third column. This activity is done on the first page of the development log. The second page is for Step 5 1.3 Determine the Difference and Choose Three Areas for Development Follow the directions in the sample portfolio. I include them here for your reference. Compare “Your Level” with the “Previous Level” for each competency. In the “Difference” column enter the positive (if you rate higher) or negative (if you rate lower) amount of the difference between the previous and current levels. If they are the same enter 0. Scan the “difference” column to identify what you consider to be the most significant areas for development. Highlight these competencies. Now, go back to the self-assessment, review the scales for your selected competencies and choose three (3) areas to develop until the next assessment. 1.2 Assess your Overall Level in each Competency Print off the target levels document, complete it and follow the directions in the sample portfolio. I include them here for your reference. Using the Five-Point Scale, determine your overall level for each competency. Think big picture. Use the scale as a guide to make your most honest assessment. Assigning your level is more an “art” than a “science”…a method to help you determine where to focus your development. Enter your rating against the appropriate competency listed in the Target Levels page. Please note that because this is the beginning of your health care journey some of your targets might not yet be set. 1.1 Self-Assessment Tool Print off the self-assessment document and complete it as per the instructions in the sample portfolio. I include them here for your reference. The self-assessment lists the key knowledge, skills and attitudes as defined by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO).Read each statement and ask yourself, "At what level am I at using the Five-Point Scale. Please complete this document to the best of your ability and use it as a reference when creating your development plan.
