Comparative

Comparatives are used to compare two things. You can use sentences with THAN, or you can use a conjunction like BUT.

Superlative

Superlatives are used to compare more than two things. Superlative sentences usually use THE, because there is only one superlative.

1.Lazy is taller than Eddie 2.Kelvin is tall, but Lazy is taller.

1. A Kit is the tallest in the class. 2. Eddie is tall, and Lazy is taller, but Kelvin is the tallest.

Adjectives

To Form the comparative/superlative

Most short adjectives

+ er / est

Short adjectives ending in e

+ r / st

Short adjectives ending in y

- y + ier / iest

Short adjectives ending in a Vowel + a consonant (except w)

double the consonant + er / est

Long adjectives (two syllables or more)

+ more / most in front of the adjective + less / least in front of the adjective
