COMMUNICATION IN A SCENE OF CRIME Communication is the major reason for the crime. The murder might be committed only because of 2 reasons: 1) Something was communicated 2) Something was not communicated After the crime is committed the communication takes place as follows: 1) 2) 3) 4)
The CSI unit receives a call for investigation. The CSI thoroughly documents the scene by taking photographs and drawing sketches. People are enquired and interpretations made. A detailed report on the crime is submitted as evidence.
The Forms of Communication in a crime are 1) Environmental communication 2) Non - Verbal communication 3) Oral communication 4) Written communication 5) Visual communication
ENVIRONMENTAL COMMUNICATION This deals with the weather, time of the crime, the ambient room temperature, notable gases, sounds and things out of place or missing
NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION Non – Verbal Communication is the signature of the criminal. Such as stains or marks on the clothing, any bruises, cuts or marks on body, bodily fluids present beside blood, any insect activity on the body, body temperature, fingerprints, tissue samples, hair and fibers, weapons and firearms evidence, trace evidence, doors and windows, ashtrays, the trash cans, clocks, shoe prints and blood splatter.
ORAL COMMUNICATION
Oral communications are the first responders, witness interviews, telephone calls, caller IDand recorded tapes.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION Written Communication involves letters of victim, wall graffiti, last written E-mail, previously sent sms, diaries, suicide note, phone books, a ransom note, a forged cheque, a business contract and documentations.
VISUAL COMMUNICATION To create a visual record that will allow the prosecuting attorney to recreate an accurate view of the scene. Such as photographs with various views, sketches, measurement of the space of crime and videos to estimate time of movement.

CONCLUSION All forms of communication are present in a crime scene. Understanding them provides the necessary cue. Miscommunication due to external noise is highly possible. Communication starts the crime, facilitates investigation and finally identifies criminal.
