“COMMUNICATION

AND

CONFUSION”

Communication is a very versatile topic that is very helpful in building relationships. It is very important in every aspect of life. Now, the world is turned into a global village and the need of ever one to live upon is the communication and the best one is who can communicate well. Now with the progress in science or technology the means of communication are also changed and the old methods of communication are changed. People use the electronics means of communication than the old ones which were very slow. Now, a person can speak with any one around the world to communicate with him for his or some one else benefit. Humans communicate one with another in myriad ways each day; from verbal interactions, to written missives, and even non-verbal reactions, communication is one aspect of life that no person can allow a day to pass without engaging in. Since communication helps us define ourselves; our wants, needs, and expectations to others; what constitutes effective communication? As John Dewey once noted, "There is all the difference in the world between having something to say and having to say something." Throughout the course of this paper, then, I will explore what it is that constitutes effective communication. There are a wide number of sources of noise or interference that can enter into the communication process. This can occur when people now each other very well and should understand the sources of error. The concept behind verbal communication is a simple one. In order to communicate you need a minimum of two people: one to speak and one to hear what is being spoken. In truth, the act of communicating is far more

involved than that. Not only does the speaker need to clearly express his or her ideas, but the person who hears the words also needs to listen to them and process what is being said. Communication between people in a committed relationship can be even more difficult than between others. Such communication, interpersonal communication, can be very different from communication between people who do not share intimacy. At times, those people who share intimate relationships may appear to fail to develop a relationship based on other factors Humans have been communicating since four million years. On the other hand, the birth of culture is estimated to have token place about 35,000 years ago. Today, both culture and communication have evolved considerably and have become interdependent of one another, to the point that communication is considered to be a product of culture. Thus, our own culture has a deep impact on our thoughts and behaviors. Since each culture has its distinct aspects, intercultural communication can be the cause of conflict and disorder. There are three main issues which are at the root of the problem of intercultural miscommunication : language as a barrier, cultural diversity and ethnocentrism. I will analyze these three notions in situations in which intercultural communication is frequent such as : the workplace, the classroom and vacation trips. Mostly confusion occurs due to the difference in culture, So It is important to understand the culture of other people to avoid confusion during any kind of communication. Confusion can be removed by cross checking the information that is being supplied by the source and the listener must have also confirmed the point at which he is confused to avoid big problems which could be dangerous for every one, and possibly may cause serious problem.
