COMMITTEE ON VETERAN AFFAIRS

Power The Chula Vista Civic Association Committee on Veteran Affairs serves as the official advisory committee to the Board of Directors on all matters pertaining to veteran affairs. The committee researches and educates the Board of Directors on crucial issues that impact local veterans (State, Federal, and in some cases legislation at the local level regarding veterans including, but not limited to benefits and support. The Committee may request an Association “Call to Action” (an assertive advocacy campaign) with respect to a veteran issue. The Committee may make recommendations to the Board of Directors to actively support or oppose legislation with respect to Veteran Affairs. Meetings Committee meetings are called by request of its Chair. The committee Chair may entertain requests by committee members to convene, at the discretion on the Chair. The Chair, upon calling a meeting, must notify the Association’s President & CEO, at least twenty-four hours prior to calling a committee meeting to order.

Chair The Chair is responsible for presiding over meetings and reporting to the Board of Directors with regard to actions taken by the committee and/ or to propose an Association “Call to Action” regarding the committee’s respective issue(ex: Veteran Affairs). The Chair is responsible for recruitment to the Association’s committee. The Association allows and encourages anyone to serve on its committees regardless of professional expertise on a given committee issue, however, it is strongly desired that the Chair assist in recruitment of members most suited to the respective issue (Ex: a veteran to advise on Veteran Affairs). The Chair and committee members are encouraged to reach out the veteran community, serving as liaisons to the community on Veteran Affairs including but not limited to attending various veteran association/group meetings on behalf of the Association, representing the Association on matters pertaining to Veteran Affairs at local City Council or district meetings with state and federal elected officials.
