Cola®Fax PME Cola®Fax PME-40 Cola®Fax PME T-60 Proposed CTFA/INCI Names: Potassium Monoalkyl C12C13 Phosphate Potassium Monoalkyl C12C13 Phosphate, Butylene Glycol Triethanolamine Monoalkyl C12C13 Phosphate CLEARANCES: EINECS/ELINCS, DLS, TSCA

DESCRIPTION The Cola®Fax PME Surfactants are high purity monoalkyl phosphates developed as high foaming, extremely mild primary surfactants for personal care formulations. The products can typically be used alone or in combination with lauryl ether sulfates, amphoterics or other mild surfactants. Cola®Fax PME Surfactants provide an exceptional conditioned after-feel to the skin or hair and are non-irritating to skin and eyes. These products are ideally suited for use in many personal care applications such as body and shower cleansers, bubble baths, baby washes, facial cleaners, make-up removers and many other mild cleansing preparations. Cola®Fax PME Surfactants are useful for formulating ethylene oxide free, sulfate free and propylene glycol free hair and skin products.

BENEFITS • •

• •

Extremely mild Silky, talc-like after feel to skin and hair Excellent foaming properties Active pH range use 5.5 or greater

• • • •

Non-stripping to hair and skin Virtually odorless and completely colorless Compatible with most surfactants Non-EO containing surfactants

FORMULATING WITH COLA®FAX PME SURFACTANTS On typical systems mixed with anionics, start with a typical ratio of 80:20 lauryl sulfate to amphoteric and then begin adding Cola®Fax PME of choice to get desired effect of mildness, after feel and lather. Other systems can be made entirely of PME Surfactants. Three forms of this unique and useful monoalkyl phosphate ester are provided for your formulating needs.

BIODEGRADABILITY Based on the chemical structure of this product we believe it to be 100% biodegradable.

TOXICOLOGICAL PROPERTIES The Cola®Fax PME Series of surfactants are undergoing testing for dermal irritation and in vitro ocular evaluation. Early results as well as previous industry testing of similar compounds indicate dermal irritation to be “non-irritating”. Ocular irritancy classification is predicted to be “mild”. As Colonial’s final results come in, they will be made available and published as part of an updated bulletin.

FORMULATING WITH Cola®Fax PME SURFACTANTS Combining Mildness with Performance In the development of shampoos, traditional anionic surfactants, such as sodium lauryl sulfate and ammonium laureth sulfate offer excellent foaming and low costs, but have been associated with higher degrees of irritation. Amphoterics offer excellent mildness, but inadequate lather. Generally, as foam/lather properties of a surfactant improves, irritation increases accordingly. Our studies point to Cola®Fax PME Surfactants as a bridge in the mildness/performance gap. As a co-surfactant, in combination with traditional anionics and amphoterics, Cola®Fax PME Surfactants have the potential to offer a new range of formulating options. Based on the specific requirements of a formulation, Cola®Fax PME Surfactants can be 225 Colonial Drive

utilized to supplement the feel and foaming of anionics at the same time as it contributes to the mildness properties of the formulation.

APPROVALS Cola®Fax PME Surfactants are Einecs/Elincs Listed, DSL Listed, and TSCA Listed. The Cola®Fax PME Series falls under the general CAS # 12751-23-4.
