NEWS CCRH Workshop on Scientific and Medical Writing Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy conducted a 2 days workshop on Scientific and Medical Writing at its headquarters. The workshop encompassed various aspects of writing s scientific paper, right from giving a title to the conclusion. Smt. S. Jalaja, Secretary, Dept. of Ayush had inaugurated the workshop. Many experts like Dr. Peush Sahni, Editor, National Medical Journal of India, AIIMS, and Dr. Rajnikant, Scientist, Indian Council of Medical Research have given speech. US FDA warns against a Homoeopathic Product US FDA has warned consumers against a homoeopathic cold remedy in the US market. The FDA says it tied the drug to reports from 130 consumers who said they lost their sense of smell. The ingredient causing loss of smell is Zinc gluconate. It has been creating bad name for homoeopathy for the last few weeks. INTERNATIONAL PRESS ABSTRACTS MATERIA MEDICA Do We Need New Provings? As Hahnemann conducted some 60 provings in his lifetime, we can assume that this is about the

number of provings which every homoeopath should strive to be part of, be it as a prover, as a supervisor, or as the conductor of the whole process. The more remedies you know the more patients you will be able to cure. Many substances are of enormous practical importance today did not exist or were simply unknown to man in Hahnemann’s time (Ozone, X-ray, Lithium, LSD, Haloperidol, etc.). Research is one of the qualities of true science. Some of Hahnemann's statements that back up this opinion are quoted. To justify this point of view, a case of Lac lupinum, a newly proved remedy, is presented. (It is worthy to mention that a book on these new Hahnemannian provings is under publication and a team is working on compilation of a repertory of new drugs.) RESEARCH Homoeopathic Preparations of Quartz, Sulfur and Copper Sulfate Assessed by UVSpectroscopy Several physical methods have already been applied to investigate homoeopathic preparations but it is yet unclear which methods are best suited to identify characteristic physicochemical properties of homoeopathic preparations. In this blinded, randomized, controlled experiment homoeopathic preparations of copper sulfate (CuSO(4); 11c-30c), quartz (SiO(2); 10c-30c, i.e. centesimal

dilution steps) and sulfur (S; 11x-30x, i.e. decimal dilution steps) and controls (one-time succussed diluent) were investigated using UVspectroscopy and tested for contamination by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). UV transmission values of homoeopathic preparations had a significantly higher variability compared to controls. In none of the samples the concentration of any element analyzed by ICP-MS exceeded 100 ppb. Lower transmission of UV light may indicate that homoeopathic preparations are less structured or more dynamic than their succussed pure solvent. It is a new evidence for homoeopathic ultra dilutions.
