Unfortunately, my answer may have given you the wrong impression, The President was in Texas during most of August 2001. I did fly down to brief him on Friday August 17,2001 and also briefed him in Washington when he returned on Friday August 31, 2001. During the time the President was in Texas, he was accompanied by a senior CIA analyst who briefed him on average six days a week. That briefer was in regular communication with CIA Headquarters and often directly with me. Additionally, I met with the President in Washington at least six times during the first eight days of September. I hope this information is helpful in clarifying my contact with the White House during this significant period.

The materials are available for inspection by these individuals in I 9/11 closed by statute I office at CIA headquarters. 5. Document Nos. 1600462 through 1600468 include information relating to a subject matter to which only the Commission's teams headed by Mr. Doug MacEachin, Mr. Kevin Scheid, and Mr. Mike Hurley have access. (U) For documents described in the above paragraph No. 3, it is our understanding that the "Hurley Team," in its review of documents falling into the subject compartmented category, will identify those documents for which other Commission teams require access. This understanding is important, as without this review, some Commission teams may not learn of important responsive documents. (U) In a number of cases, Mr. Dan Levin, the Executive Branch focal point for Commission matters, has requested that we remove certain documents appearing in a package of documents being produced with this response.
