About Chartered
Joint Development Alliance
Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd., one of the top dedicated semiconductor foundries, provides leading-edge manufacturing technologies and capacity along with comprehensive customer support to the world’s leading semiconductor suppliers. With the collaborative, joint-development approach it helped pioneer, Chartered has established a new standard for driving innovation and providing flexible sourcing solutions to meet the evolving needs of fabless and fab-lite companies.
Beginning in 2002, Chartered helped break new ground in the foundry industry by entering into a collaboration with IBM to jointly develop leading-edge manufacturing technology at 90nm and 65nm. Infineon, Samsung, Freescale and STMicroelectronics have since entered the joint-development effort to drive shared underlying process technology for today’s most difficult design and manufacturing challenges down to 32nm. The alliance has been instrumental in accelerating the technology roadmap offered by Chartered, which began shipping 65nm products in Q2 2007.
Chartered operates five manufacturing facilities at its Singapore headquarters, including a state-of-the-art 300-millimeter wafer fab. It supports a worldwide customer base with production-proven manufacturing processes down to 65nm with a technology roadmap to 32nm. Chartered’s portfolio of offerings includes manufacturing enhancement methodologies and value-added solutions that address specific customer requirements, unique product applications, and the most challenging design issues. Its strategy is based on offering open and comprehensive solutions, partnering with a wide range of design enablement partners in EDA, DFM, IP, design services and other links in today’s semiconductor value chain. ¡ 2007 Revenues: $1.4B USD ¡ President & CEO: Chia Song Hwee ¡ Employees: Approximately 5,800 worldwide ¡ Worldwide Locations: Eight offices in seven countries throughout

Common Platform Technology From its initial collaboration with IBM, Chartered has been offering customers unprecedented access to the technology and flexible sourcing solutions through the Common Platform. The Common Platform alliance, which now also includes Samsung, leverages joint-process development and cross-fab manufacturing coordination across all three companies’ facilities to offer a unique and open global foundry model. Common Platform technology is further supported by a comprehensive ecosystem of design enablement and implementation providers from top companies in EDA, IP, libraries and design services industries. This allows customers to easily source their design in multiple foundries worldwide and offers unprecedented flexibility and freedom of choice. The value proposition behind the Common Platform is recognized by the industry, and has resulted in leading customers such as Microsoft and Qualcomm adopting the Common Platform model. In 2006, the partners reached a major milestone by being the first foundries to deliver working 45nm
