Chemical Reaction
When Chemical change take place, we may observe one or more of the following :
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
A substance disappear A color change A gas given off or change of volume a solid is precipitated within a clear solution the temperature change a new odor appears
A chemical reaction is a process in which one set of substances called reactants is converted to a new of substances called product for example, reaction methane (CH4) and oxygen (O2) to produce carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) may be represented with the following equation :
CH4 + O2 Reactants
CO2 + H2O Products
In the chemical reaction, the atom must be same number of each type of atom on the product side and on the reactant side of the arrow. making sure that this rule is followed is called Balancing chemical equation Reaction CH4 and O2 to produce CO2 and H2O is not balance. as we see in the next section, the equation can be balance to produce :
CH4 + 2O2 2H2O 1C
4H
4O
CO2 +
1C
2O
4H
2O
TYPE of Chemical Reaction There are 5 type reactions : 1. Combination reaction combination reaction or addition reaction is that in which a compound is formed from some simpler compounds.
2Na + Cl2
2NaCl
2. Decomposition reaction Decomposition reaction is one in which a compound break down into simpler subtances that may or may not be element. this type of reaction often requires an input energy
2H20
Electric current
2H + O2
3. combustion reaction A combustion reaction is a reaction of an element or a compound with oxygen that produces heat and, often, light
CH4 + 2O2
CO2 + 2H2O
4. Displacement reaction In a displacement reaction one element displace another element from a compound; that is, one element leaves the compound and another element take places
Zn + 2 HCl
ZnCl2 + H2
5. Fermentation
eaction fermentation can see on process production Tempe, bread and Sweet cake made of cassav eaction fermentation use yeast
