ABSTRACT

Like Internet, today Intranets are becoming more important for the purpose of communication with in an organization, weather the organization is at one geographical point or at different geo-points. Those intranets may be having different platforms. So there is a need to develop cross platform network solution for better communication. “ChatServer” is a cross platform network solution with in an organization that adapts Internet technologies for better and easy communication. World wide, the most common Internet technologies put to use within the organization. ChatServer is completely runs by Web’s hypertext system. ChatServer is completely developed using the object-oriented, multiplatform programming language Java, which is fully featured with network support. The ease of network programming in Java makes ChatServer best of its kind.

SYSTEM STUDY PRESENT SYSTEM:

Multiple number of networks have been designed to cater different needs of various customers. Some of them are quoted below: LAN: It is a network, combining many homogenous computer in the same building. Intranet works on the basis of LAN.

MAN:

An acronym for Metropolitan Area Network, this actually connects many intranets and also homogenous computers in a city. It is useful to organizations, like cops in U.S. WAN:

When expanded it means Wide Area Network. Which is the network of heterogeneous networks(LANs, MANs etc). the powerful evolution of www elevates the importance of WAN. We, in this report, are restricting ourselves to LANs i.e., Intranets. ADVANTAGES: o The major advantage in general words is 'any one can access any thing from anywhere'. o The most economical way of communication available. o Provides a powerful communication medium among widely separated people. DISADVANTAGES: o Security has been one area where computer specialists have been failing for a long time. Crackers and hackers have even intruded into highly secured sites of Defence, FBI and Yahoo. o As no one virtually controls the web. It has know become an easy medium for sending viruses and other illegal material.

PROPOSED SYSTEM:

The proposed system, Intranet adopts Internet technologies for use in its basic infra structure. The Intranet is also know as TCP/IP network puts to use the Internet communication tools, to pass information in a private network, although it is not an Internet. The proposed system is most ideal, within a company, to publish company news letters, sales figures and other corporate documents. This system(proposed) is a complete user friendly site, where we have hyper text pages serving needs like hyper links, images and sounds, of various clients requests for information and accessing a database. We would like to elevate the point that we do not need a dedicated system as a server for this proposed system, we can use the existing file and print servers to perform the job as a Server for Intranet. ADVANTAGES: o Intranets are affordable. o Intranets are easy to maintain. o Intranets are quick and highly efficient.
