CHARACTERISTICS OF LIVING ORGANISMS There are so many things around us e.g. insects, ball, rat, cat, flower, table, chair, chalk etc. Out of these insects, rat, cat, and flower are living objects and ball, table, chair and chalk are non-living things

WHAT ARE LIVING THINGS 1.Living things are made of cells

ACTIVITY:-1. Take an onion, peel it and observe it under the microscope. You can see many small chambers, these are CELLS. 2.Cells are made of atoms. 3.Living things have shape, weight and mass. 4.Living things occupy space.

CHARACTERISTICS A.CELL ORGANELLES:All living objects are made of cells. Cell is the basic unit of form and work. There is a living object in the cell, called PROTOPLASM. The organisms made of one cell are called UNICELLULAR

organisms and the organisms made of many cells are called MULTI-CELLULAR organisms.

B. METABOLISM All living objects in take food and water, which are digested in their bodies and produce energy. The waste part of the food and water is excreted out of the body. During this process many chemical reactions take place in the cells which are called METABOLISM.

C:- NUTRITION

All living objects need energy to work, which they get from ood. This process is called NUTRITION. The animals are classified into three categories on the basis of the types of ood.

1.HERBIVORE:- These animals take plants and the products of plants as their food, e.g. cow, goat, rabbit etc.

2.CARNIVORE:- These animals eat the flesh of the other animals, e.g. tiger, lion etc.

3.OMNIVORE:- These animals eat both plants and animals.

D:- RESPIRATION All living organisms respire in the air. They inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. This process is called RESPIRATION.

E:- MOVEMENT All living organisms can move. Animals move with different styles. They can walk, run, jump and creep. Plants have internal movement. ````````````````````````

E:- GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

All the plants and animals grow. They grow in size helps them in growing. They grow due to the multiplication of the cells.
