Chapter I The Problem and its background The chapter I is the problem and its background that includes the following parts; the introduction, theoretical framework, statement of the problem, hypothesis, significance of the study, the scope and delimitation, and the definition of terms. Introduction Statement of the Problem The study aims to determine the Impact of Social Interaction to the Lifestyle of Orphan Children in Alay Pag-asa Mandaluyong, Pasig City. It especially aims to answer the following question: 1. What is the profile of the respondents according to: 1.1 Gender 1.2 Age 2. What are the factors that affects the respondent’s lifestyle according to: 2.1 Social Factors 2.2 Physical Environment 3. Is there a significant relationship between the respondent’s profile and their social interaction? 4. Is there a significant relationship between the orphan children’s lifestyle and their social interaction?

Theoretical Framework Scope and Delimitation The aim of this study is to ascertain “The Impact of Lifestyle to the Social Interaction of Orphan Children in Alay Pag-asa Foundation, Mandaluyong City”. The age of the respondents is ranging from 10-17 years old. The respondents has a total population of 500 and been extracted to 222 using the Slovin’s Formula. The researchers will be using the random stratified sampling method to obtain the sample size per age and gender. This study will be conducted at Alay Pag-asa Foundation, Mandaluyong City where the respondents are currently living. The main instrument used in the research is researcher’s made questionnaire, which will be validated by experts of the same field. The statistical treatments applied include percentage, mean and Pearson r.
Significance of the Study Benefiting the study are the various sectors as follows: To the Orphanage This is to raise awareness about the orphan’s lifestyle and its impact to their social interaction. With this, they can conduct and offer intervention and comprehensive programs that can cater and meet the needs of the orphan children in Alay Pag-asa Foundation. To the Parents Parents play a substantial role in shaping children’s mental health. They are considered as the child’s first teacher and should sustain guidance and nurture throughout life. This would help them to be knowledgeable about the status of orphan children. To the Orphans The study will provide them with deeper understanding about their current situation, encouraging more people to help and support them, and to give them more insight on how to cope up with their everyday living. To the Readers This study aims to open the eyes of the readers, as well as to widen their horizons about depression. There are common misconceptions about orphan’s
lifestyle widespread. Our goal is for everyone to recognize the lifestyle of the orphans and how it affects their social interaction to the community. To the Future Researchers The outcome of the study is beneficial to the neither present researchers or the future researchers. This may serve as a basis and an additional input to their research.
