Early Rome confronted its main rival in the Mediterranean, Carthage. In the Third Punic War, Rome finally defeated Carthage. By the end of the war, Rome dominated the Mediterranean Sea. Link the three Punic Wars and understand their importance to establishing Rome as a world power. Compare and Contrast Roman government to United States government. Explain the role of the “Roman Soldier.” Describe his lifestyle and duties.

Examine how the words: courage, duty and determination mattered to Rome. From Republic to Empire: By the second century B.C., a few aristocrats dominated the Roman state. Meanwhile, many small farmers could no longer compete and became landless poor. Some leaders called for land reform to address the problem. • After Civil War, The First Triumvirate placed power in the hands of three wealthy generals. One of these generals, Julius Caesar, marched on Rome with his troops, and eventually he was declared dictator. Caesar's rule ended in his assassination. This Roman Chapter will be divided into two tests. The first test will be on Wednesday, November 4th and Thursday, November 5th This test will mostly focus on Vocabulary, the impact of Geography on Rome, and development of the Roman government. (The end of this six week's period is Friday, November 6th) Reminder that the Video for the Video Project is due on Tuesday, November 3rd.
