CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION STATE MENT OF THE PROBLEM OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY General Objective The general objective of this study is to study the effectiveness of rice straw fiber as concrete reinforcement on concrete hollow blocks. Specific Objectives 1. To utilize waste rice straws in a more useful manner as reinforcement in concrete. 2. To produce a low cost concrete with the same or higher quality. 3. To provide extra income for the farmers and to reduce pollution caused by burned rice straws. 4. To create a sustainable raw material for producing concrete. 5. To determine the amount of rice straw fibers needed to maximize the strength and effectiveness of the concrete
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY THE ENVIRONMENT. Most of the rice straws are waste or burned, resulting not only I wasting biomass resources but also in polluting the environment. The use of rice straw in construction to reinforced the concrete effectively solves two problems which is the pollution caused by burning it and the increasing demand for a renewable material for concrete. CONCTRUCTION COMPANIES. Construction companies will greatly benefit from this fiber reinforced concrete. This rice straw fiber concrete will cost less than the commercial concrete making it great with construction companies who can easily mass-produce this type of concrete while creating more income.
CHAPTER 1 LOCAL FARMERS. One of the problem of our farmers is their agricultural residue. Another problem is their low income despite of the efforts and hard work. Instead of being wasted, rice straws can be sell to construction firms for extra income. THE FUTURE RESEARCHERS. This research will serve as an inspiration to future researchers to further improve and develop new designs. This can also be a potential reference for them to use for an even more successful research or thesis.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION The study will focus on the design and development of the physical and mechanical performance of the Rice Straw Fiber Reinforced Concrete. The study will also investigate the advantages of Rice Straw Fiber Reinforced Concrete. The primary data gathering method will used is through experiments to determine the physical and mechanical properties of reinforced concrete when Rice Straw Fibers are present. The research is limited only in using ordinary Portland cement as materials. The system is also limited in identifying the amount of Rice Straw Fiber in reinforced concrete.
