“Can’t We All Just Get Along” Project U.S. History Mr. Smith and Mr. Clodfelter Why did the Civil War occur? What were the issues that divided the country in half? Why did the North believe what it did? Was the only issue slavery? How could the South not see the immorality of slavery? Those are several of the questions that your team will be looking at and answering with this next project. There are many people, reasons and events that led to the end result; Civil War. During the Civil War best friends fought against each other, classmates from the military academies strategized against each other, brothers killed each other. The differences of opinion were numerous but just as passionate and heartfelt as the other. Objective: Over the next few days, you will research and explain a major cause of the South’s secession from the Union and the impending Civil War. Tasks: 1. Your team will create a PowerPoint slide show providing all of the necessary and important information of the event that you are assigned. 2. Your team will also create a skit/dramatization of the event to be displayed during your PowerPoint presentation. Requirements: 1. PowerPoint a. Provide detailed information/biography of the people involved b. Explain the actions/opinions of those involved. c. What is the North’s perspective? d. What is the South’s perspective?

Every group member must be involved. The skit closely resembles the facts known about the event. c. Creativity Schedule: You will have three days to work on this project. Two days will be spent in the computer lab to research and create your PowerPoint and one day in class to finalize your skit.
