Anna Kate Waters Cash My mother Addie Bundren passed away peacefully in our quiet home out in the country. My father, hed always say, that no woman could’ve strove harder to make us right. My mother, was a person who, you just wanted to please, I was her first and I just wanted to make her happy. I still remember when she wanted to plant them flowers, I just wanted to make sure she could, so I went down and got some dung for her to plant them flowers, and since I did so, she did plant them. Anyways, my mother wanted things done right, she wanted all of us kids to turn out right and although I’m not sure she loved us all the same, I always did good by her, she did good by us and so, as her son, I did good by her and so I made her the best, well built casket, I made it on a bevel, so there’d be more surface for the nails to grip. I made sure she saw me build this, I wanted her to see the job I’d done so she could pass knowing that I’d taken care of her like I always have. I stationed myself right outside her window, and my mother she watched me. I reckon she was watching to make sure I did it right, and so I did. Just before she rested she called to me to make sure it was gonna be alright. My mother couldn't pass peacefully unless she knew I did a fine job. Yes, my mother wanted things done right and she did strive hard to do so. Were going to bury her in Jefferson, on her request because that's where her family is and that's just what's done.
