Carbon nanotube is a tube-shaped material, made of carbon , having diameter measuring on nanometer scale. Formed by the graphite sheet ( i.e. hexagonal mesh). Nanotube is members of fullerene structural family.

PROPERTIES • Mechanical: Highly elastic, exhibit large strength in tension • Electrical: Low resistivity, the resistance decreases with increasing magnetic field • Thermal: Thermal conductivity is more than twice that of diamond • Physical: Very high strength to weight ratio, low density • Chemical: Chemically more inert compared to other forms of carbon

CarbonNanotubes Advantages • Extremely small and lightweight • many can be made with only a small amount of material • Temperature resistant

Disadvantages • Difficult to work with. • Relatively expensive to produce the nanotubes • Expensive to implement this new technology
