ARLINGTON, Texas -- On April 3 and 4, UTA students experienced fewer candidates as they voted for their campus representatives including Mr. UTA, Ms. UTA, UTA Ambassadors and student senators. In past elections, the UC mall has been lined with tables of candidates campagainig. This year approximately six candidates out of the 48 students running for a position. With this decline, students have noticed a decline in voting as well. “I feel like most events like this are not publicized enough,” Nicole Binkley said. Binkley said she knows about events due to her involvement with UTA. She said she feels if someone could come up with strategies and channels to reach to reach other students that it will increase involvement. UTA Ambassador candidate Jesus Torres said he thinks having the ambassadors working harder to get more students involved could help. “It doesn’t root from us. It roots from the other students on campus,” Torres said. “I feel like just getting involved can try to push others to get involved,” Mr. UTA candidate Dylan Hernandez said about why he chose to run. “I just want to try to get the attendance higher [for organizations and events] and end up having the school have a fun time,” Hernandez said. “I think it is important to support the people who want to be voices and who want to be staples in our UTA community so we can be more inclusive,” Binkley said.
