Location * New Zealand is a beautiful country with a population of 4.5 million people • Cambridge is one and a half hours from Auckland International Airport. • Cambridge is a town of 18,000 people. It is centrally located to many attractions and areas of New Zealand. • It is only 15 minutes drive from Waikato University, located in Hamilton. Hamilton is New Zealand’s fourth largest city.

Internationally Flavoured School We have 1200 New Zealand students attending Cambridge High School, and over 50 International Students. With over 20 years experience in hosting international students from all over the world, we are proud of the care that they are given and the successes that they have.

We offer *Small class sizes *Free English placement testing on arrival * ESOL classes to support students English *E.A.P ( English for Academic Purposes) classes to assist with entry into Tertiary Institutions including assistance with IELTS, TOEIC and TOFEL ( iBT ) *ESOL staff who are fully qualified and experienced in ESOL teaching * A purpose built ESOL classroom with modern computers, media equipment and resources available for students

Academic Success We are one a few select schools in New Zealand that offer the City-& –Guilds Internationally recognised examinations. These examinations are offered two times are year. Our international students excel in this opportunity to prove their level of English. Examinations are from Beginner to Advanced level.

Some successful City-&-Guild Students

NCEA ( National Certificate of Educational Achievement) Examinations All students attending school in New Zealand have the opportunity to sit our national NCEA examinations. These are examinations that are organised by the New Zealand Education Department. After successfully completing levels of academic work then students receive their NCEA Level’s certificate.

IELTS Preparation Available

Our International Students are able to also prepare themselves for IELTS testing at Cambridge High School.

Waikato University is 15 minute drive from Cambridge and is an IELTS testing centre.

Student Support With our wealth of experience we have developed excellent student support facilities to help our students settle into their new environment. Debbie Johansen - International Office Administrator Mrs Johansen provides assistance with the following: Visas and Medical Appointments Stationery and uniform requirements Travel arrangements to and from the airport Orientation programmes Correspondence with students families

Julieanne Seath – International Student Homestay Co-ordinator Mrs Seath organises the homestay placement for new students coming to Cambridge High School. Also she meets new students when they arrive in Cambridge. Mrs Seath also communicates with family and agents of our students . Mrs Seath also assists with students orientation to Cambridge High School .

Phil McCreery Cambridge High School Principal Cambridge High School encourages and promotes the Corner Stone values of Obedience, Duty, Respect, Honesty, Kindness, Consideration, Compassion and Responsibility. All students are treated in the same professional manner at Cambridge High School.

Our International Ambassadors New students that arrive at Cambridge High School are welcomed by International Ambassadors from their own home country. Any agents that also visit are greeted by these students.

ERO Report Comments 2008  Our International Office was reviewed by the ERO

( Education Review Office) in August this year. These were some of the comments that were made by the report  “Staff, students ,caregivers and parents are well informed about the school induction procedures, support systems and agencies.”  “Students feel that they are well supported and that the staff in the international office are readily available.”  “The home-stay manager provides effective support for both caregivers and students. Students receive wellconsidered care and appreciate the support of the school and caregivers.”  “ The Head of Department of ESOL is well qualified and provides effective programmes to cater for the specific needs of the students.”

Cambridge High School facilities

Cambridge High School upholds the towns title as the “Town of Trees”. The grounds are laid out with a variety of areas for students to sit and enjoy their lunch. Within the grounds the school hosts a range of facilities •Library block •Computer suites •Technology buildings •Maths block •Swimming pool •Gymnasium •Common room •Music Suites

School activities Students are encouraged to take part in all school activities these can include •Sports and Athletic Events •School Production •Stage Challenge •School Ball •School Swimming Events •Year 13 Camp •Junior Camps •International Student Events

Some of the wide ranging events that our students can be involved in at Cambridge High School.

School International Activities International Students host a number of events that broaden the international experience of our New Zealand students. These include; •International Language Week •International Food Festival •Conversation Groups

Outside the Classroom International students get to experience New Zealand culture with a number of different excursions. At Cambridge High School we do have high academic expectations, but we also have some serious fun. Each term we have an outside activity that allows our students to see more of New Zealand and get to make some great friends as well.

Homestay Family Barbeque As our students are a long way from home we like to involve their “Kiwi” homestay family as much as possible with school life. At Cambridge High School we have two Homestay Family Barbeques each year. It is a huge event with our families.

Fees for 2009 Tuition for the year $11,000 NZ dollars ( discounted by

$500 to $10,500 for each subsequent year) Homestay fee $190.00 per week Uniform and stationery payment for the year $1,000 Homestay placement fee – one off payment of $250.00 Insurance for the year $468.00 We also offer short term courses at Cambridge High

School.
